Declaring a State Religion

RE: Declaring a State Religion
The Feds had bigger fish to fry...til now. I expect they'll get into more and more trouble the more attention they call to themselves.

When there are people like this, I'm not surprised.

PT Barnum said a lot about human intelligence that I use to help myself understand the current incarnation of the Republican party.

I have no sound driver on this computer so I can't remember or review the vid to help me remember if it was in it or not, but there was a quote from John Steinbeck: “Socialism never took root in America because the poor see themselves not as an exploited proletariat but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires.”

I like that statement, but I think it goes a little deeper.

The American people are easily manipulated by the media and the people who control the media benefit from keeping things how they are. It results in a lot of people thinking Paris Hilton's tax break is more important than their social security. It results in people voting against their own economic self interest with what should be minor issues like same sex marriage, abortion or prayer in school.

I can't help but think, if we ever bothered to reform our media, that would fix a lot of the problems we have in Washington.

Not just in Washington... Not to plug a friend's book, but if you ever get the time you should read Ben Radford's "Media Mythmakers".

Because of the Constitution, Congress can actually install a state religion given 2/3rds vote and I believe state ratification.

And then it would have to pass senate. Won't happen. At least the senate can get off its ass to do shit, but the congress? Shit's like herding cats. A bunch of idiots, a few intelligent individuals, and generally a lot of disagreement over nothing is what passes for the sad sack that is Congress nowadays.

You know you both praised and admonished the Senate, right?
