You don't have any Muslim friends then...
I think it's based on the bigoted assumption that the population think that these criminals represent Muslims - I think the population is more smart!
Just as people know Stalin doesn't represent atheists though he claimed to be be one. Or Mao or the leader of N Korea....
They don't represent atheism and neither they should (people here are so aware of this thanIm even informed that they are actually theists).
These guys don't represent atheists and neither they should.
PLEASE NOTE (really) I don't think that they do so please don't start defending atheists: I don't think you need to decry what these criminals have done as I am not declaring that they represent all atheists: it is a weak minded individual who tries to say they do...

No, I don't, but you're missing the point, as I am very much against generalizing a whole group based on an extreme few. My point, however, was that rather than trying to explain to people why they shouldn't generalize, try
demonstrating why they shouldn't.

Well most Muslims arent terrorists and people read into these stories an age old image of 'us the civilised and them the uncivilised' and not much is gonna change til an openness to "this doesn't mean Muslims are scumbags".
But I don't think this openness is here and really I'd rather work from the top down - tackle the media and culture that socialises people like you to think in such silly ways....

People like me? You've got some balls considering I have not said one thing in this thread denigrating Islam. I think it's a travesty that the extremists are viewed as the majority, but whining about it isn't going to change a damn thing. Instead of boo-hooing about how we think in "such silly ways," tell us how upset you are that violent extremists are tainting the image of your religion. Tell us how it angers you that they have twisted the words in your holy book to suit their own political agenda. Explain to us how your religion does not condone such actions.
You blame others for thinking radicals represent Islam, but you sit silent, unwilling to demonstrate otherwise. Instead, you cry about how others are generalizing such a large population, which makes you look apathetic and somewhat complacent about the atrocities.

Where did I assume you're like them?
Listen, I'll try and make it nice and simple for you this time. Complaining about how everyone unfairly generalizes your religion is doing you no good until you demonstrate that it is an unfair generalization.
I mean, I'm on the same page as you in regards to this issue. People should not classify all Muslims based on the extremists they see on the news, but when Muslims such as yourself complain about that unfair generalization instead of showing some anger towards the people that are actually giving your religion a bad name, what's going to stop them?

Muslim will not talk bad about other Muslims in a public setting. You are correct! They will not show anger towards those that give Islam a bad name. They seem to blame outsiders for their issues.
