Hmm, well Kichi, those concerns were covered in the articles related to your post. If they were smart they could transition to PV solar panels like they are here in Portland and pass a small amount of the cost on to the consumer. Then they could meet power demands through smaller unit PV cells without the large cash outlay required from building large power plants. Then again EEI seems to clearly understand a real threat to their current business model. What if PV panels, micro turbines, and battery technology capable of storing surplus energy for the nighttime, became cheap enough for consumers to purchase and leave the grid?

I think they already are Rhiz. Consider remote places like we have here in Oz.

I fail to see how any urban/ city dweller can "leave the grid" but they can sure as hell reduce their need for the grid. This begs the question, just how much are we being ripped off by utility companies for our residential electricity if they get alarmed over PV cells per house hold?
