RE: Top 5 films
Don't dis the Princess Bride, it's awesome Big Grin
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

I should have.... but I didn't like it that much...

Very good choices....except for the last one.... (?)

Had to break it up a bit. Since, the first four are Mel Brooks Films. The Fifth Element would be an awesome set.

The Monty python movies (life of Brian and Quest for the Holy Grail) are NOT from Mel brooks!

You are correct. My head was somewhere else today. Long hard day of work. Re-IPing networks gives me headaches!

At some point of "favorite" movies it becomes impossible to judge among so many. I have a longer list. Look at it I cannot particularly rank any of them as MY top five.

As soon as I try I start thinking of the intrinsic quality of the movie, the production values, acting quality and other things that have nothing to do with my enjoyment in watching it.

The Sword and the Sorcerer has production values on the order of a TV show. What little acting there is is just good enough not to detract from the movie. But the movie is a swashbuckler without pirates and never slows down but the script, simple as it is, is not just an excuse for action which is mostly cuts and angles. if this had been made in the 1930s it might be known as an all time great movie. It all just works.

I show it to people who are not adverse to this genre and the response is invariably, how did I miss it?

I just checked IMDB and found the featured review titled At last ... Worthwhile mindless entertainment! with 9 stars. I give it 10.

But if I had to narrow it down to five everything above would count against it being on the short list.

But that was the point in making it 5, I get that it's difficult perhaps, but I think giving a restrictive number like that would make you think more about the films you like and why you like them...

Besides, how can they be your 'favourites' if you have so many?

Doesn't that defeat the point of calling them favourites?

RE: Top 5 films
I don't know, it was pretty easy for me to list of my 5 favorite films - i'd stay up to 2 am and watch them to 4 am, even cut on network with commercials knowing I had to work the next day compulsively. Listing off my 5 favorite books...now that would be impossible.

Horror

1
IT (crap acting and 80s filming style but scared me more than any other film has in my life and is probably responsible in part for my fucked up imagination)
2
The texas chainsaw massacre (It's hard to describe but I love the style of this film, the hot Texas atmosphere, the manic anarchy of a family that just kills and slaughters, the girls in very short shorts)
3
Pet semetary (pretty scary, amazing soundtrack)
4
The shining (One of those films where I think if I were in that situation I'd just go crazy with fear)
5
saw ( I'd love to be a guy who kills people for their wrong doings in society when I'm older)

war films (I can only remember three)
1
apocalypse now
2
full metal jacket
3
saving private ryan

Comedy
1
superbad
2
Sex lives of the potato men
3
The anchor man
4
borat
5
Blades of glory

That's all I can be bothered to list for now. Also the x men films are pretty much the only action films I like but I like them a fucking lot so they deserve a mention.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

RE: Top 5 films
I haven't actually seen most of the movies that people posted here, but I think that's mainly because I've become more disinterested in watching movies in general, for some reason.

But regardless, here are top 5 favorites, not necessarily ranked in order.

1. The Seven Samurai
2. Terminator 2
3. Bloodsport
4. Scarface
5. Snake in the Eagle's Shadow

I also like some horror movies, but it seems that I like action movies the most, although there are many that I hated also.
