1) Why are you a theist? No,I'm A Christian. All Christians are theists, by definition. It's like the relationship between a square and a rhombus.

Theist covers any god, I believe in the One and none of the rest are real.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Christianity is a subset of "theism" and "atheism" is mutually exclusive with "theism". Either you're with the atheists, or you're a theist of some sort i.e. a Christian.
"It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it" ~ Aristotle

I believe in the existence of God. (April 30, 2013 at 5:30 pm)ChadWooters Wrote: 1) Why are you a theist? Duh
That simply says "I am a theist". It doesn't answer why you are a theist, which was the question.
"Why are you a theist?" "I am a theist because I was raised one/ because I have experienced a god/ because I think theism best explains the universe/ because I take Pascal's Wager/ because etc...."
Ponders too much; thinks too little.

1) Why are you a theist?
First cause and design arguments, personal experience with the Bible.
2) Were you born in a religious home?
That's pretty vague. We went to church sporadically. At home there was no Bible reading and we only said stock prayers at mealtimes.
3) If you answered "yes" to #2, do you currently subscribe to the religion you were raised in?
Pretty much.
4) Have you ever considered other religions/philosophies at some stage?
Obviously, as I participate on this forum. ("Consider" is pretty vague.)
5) If you answered "yes" to #4, what were they?
Everything we discuss here.
6) What reaffirms your beliefs as being correct over other religions/philosophies?
Way too broad a question.
7) Do you ever doubt from time to time the truths of your religion?
Sure. I haven't moved any mountains, so my faith must be weak. Jars of clay 'nat.
8) Do you read your religious/philosophical text(s) daily?
No.
9) Explain why you answered yes/no to #8
Because I don't. Pretty stupid question.
10) Do you believe your answers to the past 9 questions sincerely?
Yes.
(now the fun section)
11) Who would win a fight between a theist and an atheist? Street rules, of course.
Theist. I take taekwondo classes personally. I will kick your ass.
12) How do you like your eggs?
Scrambled or over-easy. Preferably with SCRAPPLE, the most delicious of all meat-by-product breakfast foods.
13) What did you think of Inception?
Is that the movie about dreams? If so: sucked.
14) Favourite mythical creature?
Minotaur.
15) Favourite book?
Presumably you don't want Bible, so: LOTR.
16) Favourite band?
If I had to narrow it down to one - Pink Floyd.
17) Indoors or outdoors?
Outdoors.
18) Summer or winter?
Summer.
19) If you could travel in time, what year/era would you go visit and where would you go?
Another one that's tough to narrow down to one. I'll say - watch the US constitutional convention in Philadelphia. There were a number of mental giants in that room.
20) So far, have you enjoyed your stay at AF.org?
I wouldn't hang arouns if I didn't. I like to argue. Quality of argumentation has gone down through the years though. I started out on the now-defunct Cygnus Study boards. Those were good times.

20) So far, have you enjoyed your stay at AF.org?
Yeah sure lol. Sometimes I feel the place is too negative and I have to step away. I give lots of threads a wide birth and then might check them when I'm bored and find good stuff in them. Some people and things are frustrating sometimes, and some things people say I find unbelievable. I'm a people watcher and find it all fascinating. I like the gutsy approach to faith/religion etc, and I guess it's in my roots, and where I feel at home.

Hello apophenia
Quote:5) If you answered "yes" to #4, what were they? I've flirted with Buddhism and Shintoism. I was raised Christian. Lost my faith sometime before my teens. Converted to Taoism at age 17, and started adding Hindu elements in college. My worship of the goddess developed over time.
On what basis do you believe the Goddess exists, recieves your worship and is worthy of it?
