According to American abroad, commentator Bonnie Greer, describes the coalition opposing Obama's healthcare proposals as:-

a melange of classic anti-big government, pro-small government people: garden variety fiscal conservatives, the hardcore " end-of-days " Christian right, pro-gun and anti-abortion elements, staunch anti-communists and ye olde racists.

With friends like them, huh

I don't know about the company Libertarians keep. My personal friends are not right wing christians or anti abortion. I oppose Obama's current proposal as is and I'm Atheist, pro gun, pro abortion, and I'm not a racist.

Your friend is retarded. Why does she consider herself a Democrat? Is she Joe Leibermann?

My friend isn't retarded. She has a masters in chemistry. I'd say she's a Democrat because she's an Atheist. She wouldn't fit in with the conservatives or independent party since a lot of their laws are all about God.
Sounds like she should still be voting for the GOP or the Libertarians, not the Democrats. The Democratic Party isn't the Atheist Party.

Hmmm, wonder what an atheist party would be like... would they be B.Y.O.B. or free drinks on the house? Smile Perhaps it varies? Smile Joke

Yeah, of course. If it were, they'd be alienating roughly 80% of the population, which isn't good politics. The DNC is very Christian. They're just more mainstream, like a United church or something, as opposed to the RNC being the Mormons or Southern Baptists or whatever, which are more extreme in their views.

Voting Democratic because you're an atheist, when you have a moral opposition to social programs and taxation is retarded.

Edit: It's too bad we're all so distributed across the planet, or having an Atheist Party with all of you would be a good time.

I have no idea what she votes at the polls and It's not any of my business. I know she's a Democrat and I know where she stands on some issues. Does it even matter? The point being she's a Democrat who isn't going along with everything else the Democrats are doing right now. It's like people are refusing to accept that some Democrats are turning on their party. I don't see how hard it is to accept that since they are just as stupid as the Republicans. Why would someone vote for the Republicans if they are an Atheist? Democrats uphold the separation of church and state more than Republicans do. Republicans are all about making us have to view the ten commandments 24/7.

Meatball to be someone who isn't an American you seem to think you know a lot about our politics and our people. In all honesty you don't know anything about our politics or our people.

If someone claims to be a Democrat, but disagrees with the principals of the Democratic party, it's not the Party's fault. One becomes a Democrat because they agree with the party, not because they want the party to agree with them.

Because they don't like social programs, maybe? The Democrats are big supporters of social programs?

This isn't an American issue. This is general politics and basic logic.

Actually the Democrats nor the Republicans are following what their party really stands for. They just sit up in Washington pretending to follow the party but in reality they are just robbing the taxpayers. I guess she likes social programs more than Republicans..I don't know. I don't know what brought on the discussion over the social programs. I know that she seemed to be really irritated and was venting her frustration toward the welfare system that day.

I'm telling you that no one I know in my area that I talk to likes social programs regardless of their party. I live in a Democratic majority county and the working class despises welfare and food stamp recipients. When I was a kid my parents and neighbors would dog the hell out of people in the community who were on food stamps and welfare. It's looked at as being lazy and worthless. I think people are mad that they work and pay taxes so everyone should. Oh and Democrats usually support unions. I support them if they are needed. Here..even though we are full of Democrats they HATE the union. Just mention the union and they get fired up. This is a huge manufacturing area and every factory has had union organizers trying to unionize. It never works. So I guess depending on the area Democrats and Republicans are different than they are in other places.
