So you are willing to close down all the parochial schools and sunday schools and home-schooling by religious fucktards? I doubt it.

Oh I see...Like school? Are schools a form of religion to you too? I assume they must be. Don't interfere with their ability to learn as any form of teaching is in some way interfering with their progress? Lol..."who's critical thinking?"...That is a nonsensical question. A rock is a rock regardless of my opnion of it, and is not both "a rock"...and "not a rock" at the same time in the same sense. These are examples of things that are true regardless of any opinion of them, and they are important concepts for people to learn, the younger the better! (and no...if you actually click the link instead of imposing presuppositions, there's one in the UK as well.)

My oldest has expressed an interest in joining Scouting. I'm ambivalent about it because of their stance on homosexuals and atheists, though our local groups are very liberal in these regards. I've been looking into Camp Quest as an alternative. There's some things I like (co-ed, secular), but my hang up is that Camp Quest isn't as widely recognized as the Scouts. When you're thinking ahead to college applications, being an Eagle Scout carries weight in that arena, whereas the Camp Quest equivalent does not. I'd happily send him to CQ, but would like for his achievements to be recognized as they are with the more popular Boy Scouts... Perhaps it will be by the time he gets to college application time... But application credit or no, he'd still have the skills... Decisions, decisions.

What part of "A system of belief" did you not understand, are you saying that every person has the same identical critical thoughts on any subject, and will not induce their own opinion into it . Are you kidding, your not kin to that Bush fellow are you. let me spell it out for you Teachers within an education system should not impose a system of belief/religion on their students. Atheism being preached in schools is no differant than catholicism being preached in schools because its a form of indoctrination and weather you agree or not is besides the point .

Can you cite an example of 'atheism being preached' (???? Nonsensical) in school(s)?

What system of belief is Camp Quest imposing? The words "atheist" and "atheism" aren't anywhere in their mission statement. I don't think you even went to their website.

People shouldn't comment on things they haven't researched.

Quote:Our Mission
Camp Quest provides an educational adventure shaped by fun, friends and freethought, featuring science, natural wonder and humanist values.

Values we teach: integrity, empathy, creativity, critical thinking, and community.
Don't see atheism here.
Quote:Our Vision
Camp Quest envisions a world in which children grow up exploring, thinking for themselves, connecting with their communities, and acting to make the most of life for themselves and others.
I bolded the part where they indoctrinate you. /sarcasm
Quote:Our Goals
Through our programs, we seek to:
Foster curiosity, scientific inquiry, and critical thinking in young people to enable them to draw their own conclusions
Look, more brainwashing! Or are you suggesting...that if people become free and critical thinkers, then they will move away from theism? What are you talking about, that's absurd. Wink

Would you say that beliefs are preached about and logic is taught? Atheism is not a belief, its all that remains after exersising the ability to apply logic to theism that is held as true simply because it is preached. You don't preach atheism anymore than u would teach A-celestial-teapotism. The non sensical part I was referring to was the "who's critical thinking" part. Critical thinking (in at least as I surmise) is the process of applying logic to anything in order to determine its validity of it apart from opinion. So its a non-subjective filtering process through which ALL things can be measured. Why on earth would you not want your kids to know how to be a critical thinker?

To simplify my point, If you apply logic to a belief properly to derive a valid conclusion, then you are critically thinking.

If you do not, and fallaciously reflect upon a belief to derive your conclusion and deem it as valid, you were not critically thinking.

There's really no room for misinterpretation here. It's a way to see THROUGH propaganda and weigh claims on their merit ALONE. So what exactly are you suggesting is wrong about learning to be a critical thinker, having understood that there is only one way to do it properly?

Through our programs, we seek to:
Demonstrate atheism and humanism as positive, family-friendly worldviews
Could not resist trying your hardest to take this out of context? They aren't "demonstrating atheism", they are demonstrating that atheism is family friendly, not the evil, baby eating, society destroying group of devil worshipers that many people make it out to be.
