Africa is in the condition it's in not because there are insufficient resources to help, but because of politics and petty warlording.

To me that is an excuse, many places in Africa would welcome those wells, also there are other places in the world that would benefit from wells. I think people are always more important than science projects that are probably not beneficial to man and especially if it leaves out the impoverished. Sorry man, I wasn't pointing at you specifically, I get upset when I think about all that's wasted trying to discover things in space and do little to nothing to help those who are in need of a basic like water. All the world has to do is stop wasting money come to a simple agreement to do whats best for those without good water and drill the wells. Anyway, there's not much of a point wasting resources to get water and food to a people who live in a place too remote and with no ability to raise their own food.
10000 wells sound pretty on paper, but a few of those can leave all others downstream dry.
The world is not simple.
The world is under real threat of overpopulation.
The rich part of the world cannot keep supplying the poor part with supplies indefinitely. They seem to just breed more mouths, more supplies needed.... on the other hand they also breed stupid soldiers who just want to kill and get killed.. maybe the overall population doesn't increase.... oh wait.. it is increasing!
Let them kill each other over that desert land. Whatever survives with no outside aid, can survive in that region indefinitely without outside aid.

The "west" cannot impose its rules on those areas. At best, we can hope that they come to their senses and, eventually, realize that the western system is, at least, better than theirs. It's a process that must work it's way into the ruling class of those places. Providing aid for the poor and dying is useless. If you want to change something over there, change the ruling class.. the warlords and the like with their tribal mentalities.

How did this mentality reach the americas? It was imposed by conquest of the indigenous population.
Is the west willing to conquer a large part of the african continent? After they've tried and failed?... well, they went there to get cheap slaves and precious stones... Once slaves became abolished, they pulled out. So they never even tried to impose themselves there properly.

Charity is to give to someone unconditionally, because you want to help them and expect nothing in return. Giving to someone conditioned upon them listening to your religious propaganda and joining your "spiritual army" is not charity, but a contract. The consideration for this contract is the exchange of food and water for unwavering loyalty. If any these people were to take water from these wells and reject your god, you would have leave them "high and dry" because they would be "poisoning the well." (pun intended)
