How does a comment like that get taken out of context?

It's a PR-type of move. I don't know why people use it, it seems as if apologizing for saying something stupid would be better received than some kind of bizarre forest-for-the-trees defense.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

"Taken out of context" = "I said something really, really stupid but I don't want to apologize for it and I hope everyone will still vote for me."
Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.

Ever notice that those that claim to have been taken out of context rarely, if ever, clarify as to exactly what the context was?

I've seen some fem-porn (porn written by women for women) and came to the same conclusion. The so-called "rape-fantasy" actually involved the man being bold and seductive but not forceful nor was she unwilling. It's a fantasy about being swept-off-her-feet as far as I could tell.
