Lady Gaga, Wow!
January 21, 2021 at 12:27 am
I'm 61 years old, an American veteran and not particularly patriotic. But Lady Gaga's rendition of our national anthem at Joe Biden's inauguration just blew me away. I first heard it at work, listening to it on headphones on National Public Radio. I watched it on Youtube when I got home.

Wow. Was that stirring or what? I had no idea she had such talent. Combined with Joe Biden's decency as a human being, that was enough to make a cynical old guy disillusioned with his own country shed tears of hope.

Fun fact, she got her name from a Queen song

Fuck you.
Whitney Houston was the mark, and I don't see anyone else doing better, but Ga Ga, was a very close second.
Barr doesn't come into play in this.

It's an interesting collaboration of military time with traditional and nontraditional colors around the sonic foundation. The first phrase lags through off beats then closes beautifully. With too many singers treating the anthem as a chance to show off and underwhelm with too many runs and falsetto, it's refreshing to hear a few great notes that soar with and accent the band.

It was nice that she showed restraint and didn't make a huge spectacle out of it.

Love Lady Gaga. At first I thought she was just a pop singer who was trying to find her spot with quirky costumes and videos. Behind the glitz and glitter is a talented singer. She was a good choice.
Like Whitney Houston's amazing performance, I prefer the anthem to be sung pretty basically without a bunch of vocal gymnastics. A singer with a solid voice doesn't need all that anyway.

National anthems are stupid. But, if you gotta have them, it's a good thing to get someone talented to sing them. Lady Gaga was a good choice.

Ah, Gaga... Didn't the poet, Amanda Gorman, steal the show?

Do you think they'll ever invite Brian37 to read one of his poems on the inauguration?
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
