I think you misunderstood me. I am saying they weren't atheist. They worshiped gods. Different gods from each other for the most part. The Huns were what I read the closest to atheism, and they had shamans.

But Barbarians have no god...but; gold, food and sex....maybe a good horse(car) too! Sounds familiar?

They had religions. Aka they worshiped gods. The culture of these people, had religions. You can deny that if you want, but they did.

Quote:The term originates from the ancient Greek word βάρβαρος (barbaros). Hence the Greek idiom "πᾶς μὴ Ἕλλην βάρβαρος" (pas mē Hellēn barbaros) which literally means "whoever is not Greek is a barbarian". In ancient times, Greeks used it for the people of different cultures but also to deride other Greek tribes and states; in the early modern period and sometimes later, they used it for the Turks, in a clearly pejorative way. Are you Greek?

And what defining moment makes one an instant atheist? Also, can a person say they are something (anything) and not act like it? Does an atheist get to choose which group, or individual that they want to be associated with... even though they both act the same way? Just sayin'

This thread is going off the rails on a crazy train. I'd like to play Advocatus Diaboli and side with Ronedee on the assumption that god-less men have possibly killed more men than god-induced men...unless of course we are talking about the biblical timeline of 6000 years then the assertion is definitely incorrect.

But still believed in god. Then one day I was at work and an atheist made a quip about did I really believe in it. I had this shocking realization, sat down, and said quietly, "No. I don't". That was about nine years ago. But it was the exact instant I became an atheist.

You complain about people not reading what you say but good grief. Take your own advice. |
