Out of more than 300,000,000 people? I'd say yes. The world will never be Utopia and the murder rate has been getting lower for the last 40 years. Look on the bright side for a change.

Before we give ourselves a pat on the back, I need to remind you folks that although the murder rate is declining - and that is always a good thing - we still have a very high murder rate compared to many other industrialized countries. In 2010 there were 16,259 homicides in the U.S. - 11,078 of those were committed with firearms.

We've still got a lot of work to do to put a dent in our homicide rate, regardless of the recent declines.
