If Exodus can do this, there's hope for most of them.

My question is, who went to/supported this gay conversion group for 37 years?

I know nothing of them, but would assume that the people who went their did not want to be gay. If people went to exodus international looking for help to 'not be gay' then are the people who went there evil people as well? Should they appologise for wanting to be straight? What of the people who were truly sucessfully converted? Should they be forced to be gay again so they can be true to their... "genes" or "how they were born?'

The point being despite how the comunity feels about one group or another if said group was active in the comunity for "37 years" then there are those who activly sought out the service that group provided. Now the question should be, what happens to those people?

There are other groups out there like it. If adults want that kind of therapy, they will find it.

I think the problem that most people have is that it was, at one point, forced upon teenagers by their parents.

A majority of the people sent to those horrid places are minors forced by their parents. Any adult who willfully chooses to go to such a place is obviously confused more by religious ideology than sexuality, falsely believing it is wrong to be gay due to those ridiculous religious beliefs.

There is no evidence that supports anyone was successfully converted from a homosexual to a heterosexual. Studies have shown that the people are still gay and that they are merely suppressing their true desires. Case in point, Ted Haggard.

What should happen to those people is that they come to the realization there is absolutely nothing wrong with being gay.

From what I read the biggest grip with this group was that they championed the idea that being gay was a choice and that they coined the phrase "pray the gay away." Their focus was on adult men in the church with families. They even were trying to reach out to Uganda.

You know, I wonder what the Christian response to this will be, and what this will mean for other Ex-gay ministries.

so your saying no man ever has had gay 'feelings' that has not been absolutely 100% gay? And of that 100% no man has ever out grown those feelings to ever truly only love a woman?
Do you have any proof? Or am I to simply take you at your word that you know the heart of every man in the history of the world who has ever or will ever live?

Quote:What should happen to those people is that they come to the realization there is absolutely nothing wrong with being gay.

That's what I'm asking sport. What if a gay man does not want to be gay? What if a man who has a wife and kids does not want to have gay feelings? What if he wants to put the lives and happiness of his family over that of his own? What if he derives more pleasure from providing his family with a stable traditional home environment, than perusing his lustful wants and desires?

Which begs the question, How would this situation differ from every other straight married man with a wife and kids, who has had someone woman he finds attractive, hit one him?

Its like cheating on your wife with another woman is still a societal sin, but cheating on her with some dude is somehow ok. Cheating is still cheating, no matter how you're logistically doing it. My question remains. What if a man no longer wants to have gay feelings? Is he to be torn for his wife and kids because of this 'untreatable' condition? Is he doomed to succumb to his lustful desire because /society looks down on anyone who wishes to redirect his sexual desire back toward his wife through sexually specific consuling?

Why would a gay man who married a woman and has kids be any less responsible for his wedding vows than a straight man? what a self righteous load of crap that is. Why is it wrong for him to seek specialized help if HE WANTS Help? Or if HE WANTS to stay with His Wife? Why is it wrong to want to live for something greater than ones own selfish (sexually specific) desire? (As only certain kinda of sexual promiscuity is permitted in this society.)

Same rules, same situation, same sexual desire, same driving force, but different expectation with in the same double standard society as the gay guy.

That doesn't require gay therapy. I think you are looking for marriage consuling.

What I think it means is some ministry leader has compromising photos of him and he was made to shut it down or his hypocrisy exposed, so rather than step aside and face the music a legitimate outreach has been destroyed. That letter seems to be a collaboration of several different world/spiritual views, as if several people from different sides of the debate got to contribute.

What will it mean for other ministries? Time will tell. I guess it depends on the need, and the communities will to support such an outreach, and those who seek its help.
