In the video she talks about her grandfather's heartache at losing "The War." How he didn't know how to cope. So he shot himself. How the south is LESS prejudice because "black folk" were like family to their owners. How we are all prejudice. Then she talks about her black friend, calls him as black as the board behind her. Then calls him onstage and says we can't see you against that dark board.
She said all that after her lawsuit was filed.
I have talked to a WWII vet. My great-grandpa was one. He pasted away when I was little, but my great-grandmothers (one pasted last summer) are a huge part of my life. If I ever heard anything like that from them, I would have called them out on the spot. I rarely did. Just because they are from a different time, doesn't make it acceptable, especially form someone who is in a spotlight.
I'm sorry I don't mean to be touchy, but this is touchy for me.

I've never heard a white southern woman talk that way. Probably because they were too polite. This is also probably why you never heard your great grandpa mention something like that to you. Woman are considered "polite society" so it wouldn't be mentioned around you.
If it was just me and them though, yeah they'd say some crazy shit sometimes.
I've also never heard any white people in the South no matter their age, say such racist crap in the presence of an African American.

I feel like her faux pas was not one of intentional hate but of ignorance, and the malice towards her is way too intense.

Rahul, I can tell you some stories... I have said I come from a multi-racial family. But when I say that I really mean it. My parents, are Caucasian of European and Native american descent. However, my brother is African american and my sister is Puerto Rican. My Aunt is Vietnamese. My uncle is Chinese, my other aunt is Mexican. Just to name a few.
While I was in High School, I got in 2 fights after some boys decided they didn't like my family. My principle told me there was nothing he could do. I was told my kids they couldn't be friends with me. I went home with one friend to find klan stuff in the living room. I was pushing my brother through target, when a grown lady started calling me and me newborn baby brother raciest names.
There is no excuse. Sure, she is saying there things because she doesn't understand why they are wrong. That requires education, ignorance is no excuse either. All racist people are ignorant. They don't understand that it is wrong, or why.

I never paid any attention to her. Then when the scandal regarding her diabetes in relation to her fattening food show came to light, I knew there was no need to pay any attention to her. It was only a matter of time before something like this happened where she would be removed from the network.

Wow. That's pretty cool.
Where I grew up there were only white people, black people, and hispanic people.
Nothing else. One of the things I like about where we live now is that it's much more multicultural. It's a better place for kids to grow up with more diversity. My youngest daughter was heart broken when her friend moved back home to China last year.
The only time I've ever seen the Klan was one time. It was a group on the side of the road from Georgia trying to get Texans to join up.
I didn't see any cars stopping for them.

I didn't mean to go off on a tangent there. It just got under my skin. Sorry

Oh it's ok. Even mentioning ethnic groups in any manner is a minefield. You never know when everything is going to blow up.
Really, for me, joining the military, working around people of all colors and creeds, visiting countries all over the place, really taught me a lot about how to think. If I didn't get that experience I'd probably be pretty fucked in the head because of my upbringing.
Well I still am fucked in the head. But not about that.

I've never liked her, but I haven't really been able to put my finger on why that is. I laughed my ass off at this, though...
