The Last Movie You Watched
|
Just watched the 1977 Hobbit with my daughter. Perhaps it is nostalgia, but I love that film. It is faithful enough to the source material.
Then we watched the 1978 animated film, The Lord of the Rings. I have seen it, but it's been probably 30 years, and I think I only saw it once (probably at age 12 or so). So I don't have any strong recollections of it, no nostalgia like I have for The Hobbit. I saw that some people bash it pretty hard. So anyway, the animation can be pretty rough, a bit jerky, and the effect of early rotoscoping is sometime bizarre, but at the same time it's just gorgeous. The expressions of the characters are fantastic, and I love the voice acting. It was also quite faithful to the source material, though incomplete, which is sad. As I was watching, I thought to myself, some of these shots, the angles, costumes, etc, really strongly remind me of the Peter Jackson trilogy. Afterwards, I read that Peter Jackson was heavily influenced by this little film. Anyway, I would recommend both. I'm not sure how to rate them. 8/10 for both, maybe? Next I hope we can see the 1980 Return of the King, done by the same company that did The Hobbit, in an attempt the finish up the Lord of the Rings the other company made but was unable to finish.

I can't remember the last SW movie I saw. I lost track awhile back and never tried to keep up with the franchise.

I saw Justice league.
Not Awful. Not good. What became apparent is far behind Marvel DC are in every way. The effects were worse, the plot was barely existent and the scene setting was rushed. All in all I rate it "Meh".
