Dunno if I was watching a thriller/gore/psycho themed movie or just plain demonstration of the ills of religious bullshit effects on the brain. But it was out there.

I treat it more as a study in ostracism, one which culminates in Thomasin losing everything (after her family was exiled from the commonwealth), eventually repudiating the old doctrines her family cleaved to even when it failed to help them, and finally entering into a new life that we don’t know if it’s going to liberate her or create yet another oppressive system that isn’t really much better than the old one.

Seriously? Floating away along with other witches around a campfire in the middle of the night?

'Moneyball'. Really good film. Interesting to see a sports movie that focused more on the management than on the players.

If you’re talking about the ambiguity over whether or not Black Philip’s coven is any better than the puritans, bear in mind, A) in the text of the film, his actions are responsible for much of the Hell Thomasin goes through, so it’s not exactly clear whether or not he’d treat her any better when she’s under his spell, and B) the way she gives herself to him in the end honestly looks a lot like a slaver inspecting his purchase, what with having her strip naked and eventually guiding her hand to sign herself over to him (even if Thomasin is illiterate as the film heavily implies, it does kind of undermine her agency throughout the whole thing.)

To be fair, if nothing else, life with the coven does look a Hell of a lot more exciting than the Puritan life.
