Not as good as #1, but not bad.
Disappointing theists since 1968!

Hard to believe that this cinematic masterpiece is almost 23 years old.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

This week in the Deep Hurting Project is not Home Alone 4, but National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation 2: Cousin Eddie's Island Adventure.
- It's weird, but I can't look at this scene where scientists are giving Cousin Eddie nuclear waste to see how it effects his intelligence without thinking about how Randy Quaid lost his mind a few years later, and started going on about star whackers.
- How is it possible for the monkey to beat Cousin Eddie at tic-tac-toe? Because you let the monkey play X.
- So, he accidentally unscrewed one of the faucet taps, and this apparently was the cue for the others to pop off and start spurting water?
- Has Cousin Eddie not figured out that automated menu calls are a thing? It's been donkeys since I saw the original Vacation movies, was Cousin Eddie's level of stupidity always that high?
- So, Audrey's made it. Two questions: Why, of all the Vacation movies for the actors for the kids to reprise their roles, is this the only one to do so? And why did she cross several states to get to Cousin Eddie?
- So, they're given a Christmas cruise to Hawaii. So why are they on a plane? Maybe if it was just to get to the boat, but there's no cruise. It's just a plane ride to the island where they're supposed to be staying.
- So, they're on an island with 600-foot wild boars. There had better be 30-50 of those wild hogs or I'll be pissed.
- And it turns out that it's less of a Vacation movie and more of a remake of The Swiss Family Robinson that just so happens to have an 80s IP attached to it. And occasional references to Christmas.
- Also, for a Vacation movie, I'm noticing a distinct lack of the sort of shenanigans that made those movies interesting. I mean, sure, they managed to get stranded on a tropical island, but they're doing pretty good for themselves. Except for them briefly building a house and then having it fall down. And they're still adapting remarkably well.
- Why do I get the feeling that "Oyeoholllola" is actually closer to Tarzan's book-accurate yell than the famous one?
- Well, that scene with Eddie trying to land the seaplane is giving shocking 9/11 vibes. Maybe the fact that he doesn't actually crash the plane into the radio tower is the only reason they approved this.
- And we leave on Randy Quaid riding a plane upside down like Denzel did in Flight.
Next week actually will be Home Alone 4 this time around, since I've exhausted the last of the Christmas movies available at the library.

When Worlds Collide (1951)
It is kind of a cute movie in a way that it looks like an illustrated children’s book about science and the world from the 50s. I even made a few screencaps.
But talk about the PC. It’s not even funny or PC, it’s just fuckin racist. They couldn’t save one non-WASP person from the destruction of Earth and take him or her to another planet?! It is almost like this whole disaster was for a “higher” purpose of being some white filter on the human race. And I do highlight this problem because the movie is very Christiany: the whole story is kind of based on Noah and the ark, the movie starts with the image of the Bible and with the words from the Bible, the most important book that they are saving is the Bible (they probably didn’t even bring any of Darwin’s books), and the movie even ends with church music and church choir as they step onto a new Eden. And yet they couldn’t save one non-white person. Not just not save, but not appear in the movie at all that features hundreds of people. I mean Christians, where is your supposed love and tolerance of everyone that you claim you possess in superior quantities?
But I do wish this would be re-made today into a TV show. There could be lots of drama, like who do we save as a sample of humanity to re-populate the human race. Do we bring gays? And there could be a crisis: many LGBT couples splitting and claiming they have been “cured” of homosexuality, just because they are afraid, they would not be picked to be taken on a spaceship and saved from the distraction of Earth. And then there are several rockets. One is even labeled a “woke” rocket because they have some LGBT people on it. So, this other rocket that is filled with righteous Christians and funded by NRA starts shooting on this “woke” rocket while they are in space because they don’t want them to bring AIDS and other insanity induced by Fox News hysteria.

If you’re going to get this worked up about racism and religious bigotry in 1950s films, you’re going to have a breakdown.
