The cops love to whine when someone plugs one of them but did you hear about the Albuquerque PD lieutant who deliberately put 9 .45 caliber slugs in a fellow cop?  The homicidal maniac was the shooting instructor and he knew the cop that he deliberately shot during a drug sting.  So what will the cry babies do now?  Will the "I feared for my life" BS get the would be killer off?  Or will they try to blame Obama?  It's hilarious.

Texas sheriff lashes out at critics by citing Bible verses: ‘All authority comes from God’

A Texas sheriff said police critics should shut up because he believes law enforcement officers are granted their authority by God.
Randy Meeks, the Hunt County sheriff, published a print-only guest editorial in the local Herald-Banner, citing Bible verses to argue that police officers are tasked with enforcing law and order for a godly nation, reported blogger Brett Sanders.
The blogger posts screen shots from the guest editorial, which was published just days after a grand jury cleared one of Meeks’ deputies in the videotaped beating of a pregnant Air Force veteran during the investigation of a domestic dispute.

The old "god said I can beat the shit out of you" excuse!

For the umpteenth time, what is a "good cop?"  Is it one who merely gets a kitten out of a tree or is it one who reports the crimes of a fellow officer instead of assisting in the cover-up?

Far too many are willing to kill or assault someone for having a broken tail light.  And far too many of their brothers in blue remain silent.

What makes someone "good?"

There are many, many, good police officers, by which I mean police officers who don't use unnecessary force, do their best to enforce the law, and try not to use their power arbitrarily. The problem is those that don't. There are too many that don't. And there are obviously way too many who who protect those who don't.

Any police officer who objects to vest and/or dashboard cameras, or citizen videos is a bad cop. Any guy trying to do his job and not shelter bad cops wouldn't object to a little video tape.

My experience with police officers has been entirely positive. But I live in a white suburban upper middle class neighborhood, and with the exception of my college years have done so all my life. And I know, because we do know people who are upper middle class and not white, that while they are not getting shot here in Salem, they sure do seem to get pulled over a lot, questioned for walking a lot, and otherwise harassed by the police for no reason other than color. At least they're not getting shot here. But that seems a rather minimum standard don't you think?

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick blames NPR for violence against cops: ‘Your type of interview has to stop’

Ah ha!  And what kind of interview is that?

Brown asked Patrick about a statement this week telling Texans to address police officers respectfully and pick up their tabs at restaurants. Some have pointed out that respect is earned, Brown pointed out, and added that many have been troubled by videos posted online that show police officers abusing people physically or killing them while they are unarmed.
“There’s a lot of skepticism out there. How do you convince those people?” Brown asked.
Patrick, a radio personality by trade, responded by telling Brown that asking critical questions results in police officers dying, saying:
“You know, your type of interview has to stop. When I was asked to do an interview on NPR, I asked myself, ‘do I really want to do this? They’re not in the police officers’ corner.’ And you’ve proven that by your interview… Yes there are people in every profession who cross the line and should be fired. Quit focusing on that small percentage of those in law enforcement who have made a mistake or broken the law themselves. Focus on the men and women that you and your family depend on every day to protect your life.”

The kind of interview where you ask why cops beat the shit out of or kill unarmed civilians, apparently.  Fuck Texas.
