The U.S. Justice Department cited the Albuquerque police department on Thursday for engaging in what federal civil rights investigators call a pattern of excessive force, some of it deadly, against residents of New Mexico's largest city.

A 46-page report capped an 18-month inquiry by the Justice Department following public complaints over a string of police-involved shootings in recent years, many of them fatal, and what critics have called heavy-handed use of stun guns by officers in Albuquerque.

Boyd, who was homeless and had a history of struggling with mental health issues, was confronted by the APD officers for camping in an unauthorized area near Albuquerque city limits. After the officers' woke him, a three-hour stand-off followed until Boyd offered to go with the officers. But as Boyd gathered his belongings, a flash grenade was fired, and he dropped his items and, reportedly, revealed a pair of knives. He then turned away as two of the officers shot six live rounds, using assault rifles, into his back. The FBI is now investigating the shooting.

Yes, but they followed proper procedure in handcuffing the corpse after the dog chewing confirmed he was dead as a nail. I also don't doubt that they dutifully read the corpse his Miranda rights. I'm sure the cops will never see any judicial consequences.

America is a country of knee-jerk reactionists, who refuse to step away from their black and white, one fits all, ideology.

We refuse to criticize the cops because they are Hero's that protect us from the local boogy men, and we can't criticize the soldiers because they are the "heros" that protect us from the foreign boogy men. We can't criticise the robber barrons because they are the "heros" that provide us jobs. We can't can't fight for moderation or a middle ground because multi-factor questions are simply too hard for the 'mercans.

Yes, but my point is that it is not too socially acceptable. We say tons of shit on this forum that would get us assaulted in some of the more redneck areas.

Despite the obvious video evidences of U.S. cops being total ass hats, civilian oversight committees are rare and unpopular.

The cops over here in Australia are pretty good, I have a lot of respect for most cops, wanted to be one actually, but after being shot they wouldn't take me, so I got the police badge tattooed on my arm.
