LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) — A northern New Mexico sheriff's deputy accused of killing a fellow deputy fired several rounds from his semi-automatic weapon as his colleague tried to flee an alcohol-fueled argument at a hotel, police said Tuesday.

The shooting happened just after midnight at Hotel Encanto in the southern New Mexico city of Las Cruces, where the two Santa Fe County deputies had stopped to spend the night after transporting a prisoner to Safford, Arizona.

At least they're shooting each other and not the public.

Justice Dept issues use of force reforms for Albuquerque police after deadly shootings

Police in Albuquerque, New Mexico will undergo reform and be monitored for use of excessive force under an agreement to be announced Friday between the city and the U.S. Justice Department.

The agreement follows a federal investigation that concluded that the Albuquerque Police Department used excessive, even deadly, force against passive civilians. Persons suffering from mental illness were disproportionately targeted, the investigation found.

Will the cops, as they tried in Seattle, sue to be allowed to exercise their constitutional right to shoot anyone they want? We can only hope not.

Maybe they should take all but one bullet away from these guys?
