From what I understand, it is just going to a grand jury and I expect that it will get dropped there.

The question is how many more years will it take to get it to a grand jury.  My sense is that this DA is in no hurry to upset the cops.

“He was a homeless man, wasn’t bothering nobody,” witness Nichelle Green told WPLG. “The man walks around, we see him every morning with his stick, the same little stick that he had in his hand when the police officer shot him five times.”

According to Green, the man “didn’t have a chance to say nothing to police” before he was shot.

It seems the cop was terrified of that stick.

Grand jury indicts Virginia cop for fatally shooting mentally ill black man ‘like a dog’

A grand jury in Norfolk, Virginia indicted a local police officer on Thursday in connection with the fatal shooting of a mentally ill man last June, WTKR-TV reported.

The panel opted to charge Officer Michael Carlton Edington, Jr. on one charge of voluntary manslaughter for shooting and killing 35-year-old David Latham. The grand jury selected the manslaughter charge instead of two heavier charges, second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

And, of course, always the lightest possible charge!

That just means it goes to trial. That should take a few years and then he will probably get a suspended sentence and back pay.

California Highway Patrol officer blames pressure to issue tickets after assault on 78-year-old man

During testimony in the false arrest trial, Brame said that CHP officers are pressured to issue tickets and must hit a monthly quota.
The CHP denies any formal quotas are in place, but an official evaluation entered into evidence tells a different story.
“You have averaged five enforcement contacts per day for the first 15 days of the month, this is well below the shift average and not acceptable for a (motorcycle),” one evaluation stated. “You will need to pick up your enforcement activity the second half of the month and use the (motorcycle) for what it is intended to be used for.”

U.S. District Judge William B. Shubb who is overseeing the trial said he was stunned by the revelations.
“That is terrible,” Shubb said. “I would think that the CHP should be ashamed of that document.”

Get real, judge.  It's a money-making scheme.
