Here he sits denouncing money, power and pleasure which is all that his fucking church is about. And the sheeple eat it up like the fools they are!

I wonder if he will have a notable impact. Passing up the personal limo for a bus ride and offering to pay a hotel bill are nice gestures, but they seem mostly symbolic. Will he have a plan whereby the Church divests itself of a chunk of its wealth to invest in programs to aid the poor, or will it be mostly telling people what to do while waiting for the staff to finish polishing the gold on his fancy chair?
Quote:"Right now, we don't have a very good relation with creation," the pope said.
After pointing this out, he hastened to add that the chalice from the palace held the brew that is true.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Quote:St. Francis of Assisi, who died in 1226, renounced his family's fortune for a life of charity and poverty and is also revered by environmentalists because he loved nature and preached to animals.
I like the part about respecting nature, and it's cool that old Frank is all about this past St. Francis guy, but preaching to animals...I thought the Catholic Church didn't believe animals had souls to save. The money part aside, this is all loony-toons and fairy tales still.

I'll believe the pope wants the church to be poor when he starts selling off their valuables and giving that money to feed the poor. Of course, if he starts doing this I wouldn't be surprised to see him wind up dead from a cold, if you know what I mean.
Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.

Yep, I'm of the same mind. A friend told me that the new pope got rid of the papal golden chair - I have no idea if it's true or not. Assuming so - if it was just stuffed in a closet for future use, big whoopty do. Start putting shit up on eBay and using the proceeds to help people, then I might be more impressed.

Yeah - and I believe car advertisements that tell me what my mileage will be if I buy their pos car, too.

I saw a news report on this at five in the morning, after staying up way too late. Without thinking, I blurted out "Are you fucking kidding me?" To an empty room. In the middle of the night.
