Yeah it's a shame how so many Catholics poo-poo the sex abuse scandals rather than being outraged by them. This is why I say the Catholic church has no right to tell other people how to live until they clean up their own house.

Well, there is still a stretched out asshole to deal with.

You know what's even more fucked up? The victims are also required to forgive and, hopefully, forget for good measure.

Actually - they do NEITHER in virtually all cases.
First - no one can REQUIRE you to forgive - anymore than they can REQUIRE you to believe in religious nonsense.

And - once you have been violated - you may suppress the event - but you will NEVER actually forget it.
