Dead for 45 minutes; an interesting near-death experience

RE: Dead for 45 minutes; an interesting near-death experience
My question is, what about all those people who are clinically dead, but don't experience an NDE? You know, no tunnel of light, no floating over your body, no meeting dead relatives, just unconscious for a while?
Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.

That is the most infantile thing I have ever heard.

The highlighted quote sounds like that Coca-Cola commercial from the 70's. I reckon advertising is more pervasive/invasive than usually thought of!

45 minutes clinically dead? ... Am I missing something here? This is the wiki on clinical death : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clinical_death It is hard to believe that a doctor would continue to try and resuscitate her for so long.

As far as I know about 5 minutes of oxygen depravation to the brain, you get serious brain damage. 45 minutes sounds unlikely, I mean, most of her brain would be gone by then. Until I see someone publishes a case study on her, I'm not buying it.

I was thinking this too at first. But if they were doing CPR on her during that time and giving her breaths of air during it, it would be possible.

I've read of people giving CPR to victims for longer than 45 minutes before.

Well, of course it can't be a REAL NDE. If it was, she would have seen Jesus and the experience would have lead her to Christianity.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

@Rahul, I thought about the CPR as well, but it simply cannot substitute the actual act of breathing. The heart is not responsible for all the movements of blood, other muscles in the body contract and relax to help it along, the lack of movements due to the lack of breathing would deprive many parts of the body from oxygen. Especially as long as 45 minutes, some organs would have sustained damage at that point. i'm looking more into this.

Ok, I stand corrected. The article says most patients who do not respond quickly (~12 mins) to resuscitation, their overall prognosis is poor. But apparently there has been lots of patients who survived after 30 minutes of resuscitation efforts who "did not appear to have substantially worse neurological functions at discharge". Interesting.

I found one that lasted three times as long and survived.

This is why I'm suspicious of establishing reality based on my experiences. Experiences can be anything-- there's no guarantee they represent anything real.

I wonder what they mean by healthy. No doubt he was healthy enough to function, but rather hard to believe he suffered no ischemic damage at all? Or maybe they fixed him up after.

Does raise the question of when do you stop trying to resuscitate.

Not in my every waking moment do I consider my mortality but, when I do consider it, I really, really, really don't want to die. I'd like to just keep on living. I like life. It's pretty cool. I mean, it's all I know, so.

And Jesus Creed, 4 NDEs are 4 too many. Do you think you're a cat?

Tiger

No but seriously, my teenage years were really interesting. ._.
