Atheists go to Heaven too
RE: Atheists go to Heaven too
(August 2, 2013 at 10:40 am)BadWriterSparty Wrote: GC, you're acting as if PP wasn't saying stuff about the Bible that actual Mormons wouldn't either. This is their 8th Article of Faith, and they adhere to it pretty strongly:

"8: We believe the Bible to be the Word of God, as far as it is translated correctly. We also believe the Book of Mormon to be the Word of God."

They know the Bible is unreliable. That's the whole reason that Joseph Smith Jr. and his buddies produced the Book of Mormon: it was to supplement the contradictory state of the Bible with something that was more succinct in its reasoning. On the other hand, the Book of Mormon fails miserably on the historical side, but that doesn't get rid of the fact that people were beginning to see problems with the Bible the moment it started coming in contact with the common man. The Holy Babble is also the reason why there are so many denominations, and not just one concise Christian religion.

Arguing with PP would have still been like arguing with a Mormon, but this Mormon was definitely a lot more rational, and a helluva lot cooler!

No historical records at all nothing to back it up period, the Bible was never written in secret, none of the writers of the Bible were con men or drugies. The Bible does not support the Book of Mormon, just as the Adventists have there other book and the JW have there translation of the Bible, they each contradict each other and do not line up with the Bible. There books and or translations come from one or two people, the scriptures have been translated by the agreement of hundreds of people to keep errors out of the Bible. So you hang in there with the Book of Mormon if you like, I do not believe it's relevant in any way and have no further use for a discussion on the book.
As far as arguing with PP goes, he has way to little knowledge of scripture to make even a poor argument, that's how I figured it out, you need to study scripture for several years , then maybe PP can try again.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

You acted as though I didn't know, I did before I logged out that night.
That last post shows I knew something was up and I was finished with PP. I knew someone here, who I didn't know, was being a trickster and as soon as I figured it out I alerted Fr0d0 so we could shut down the Christians from arguing with PP. That's all I'm saying.

That's nice, GC, but it misses the point of what I was trying to say. I occasionally have suspicions that a person is arguing in bad faith, being disingenuous, or manipulative or whatever. In such cases, them being a sock puppet or not being a sock puppet doesn't really affect how I need to deal with them, nor does it change what options are open to me. If PP had not turned out to be a sock, or the moderators hadn't found out — you'd have had to deal with him using the ordinary tools of discourse. Aside from examples where socks are used to gang up on people, which this may be a case of, the account being a sock puppet doesn't give them special powers over you that any other ordinary user doesn't have. People seem to recoil as if a member using a sock puppet means that the sock owner is taking advantage of the people they're interacting with, and my point is, aside from ganging up or using them as shills, it doesn't provide them any real opportunities that any other non-sock member doesn't have. (Matter of fact, you make my point for me, as you were already using normal social processes to deal with the situation by "alerting" other Christians of your suspicions.)

And if you remember, my main account kinda took a back seat to the back and forth. I don't understand why it was thought of as ganging up, though I do recognize the concern.

It seems to be worn from use, so I'd say yes.

I burst out laughing when I read this part. Good thing I was at home.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

You know, I think a lot of us would appreciate it if you continued responding as PP on occasion on your own account. Just begin with, "PP says:"

You can be the medium who channels PP. Think of him as one of your alters. If anyone challenges you claim to have multiple personality syndrome, then cuss them out (as an alter of course). You know, this might be fun to try myself. Hmmm.

Hey, I apologize for not supporting you sooner. I certainly never wanted to see you banned, though who among us hasn't been at one time or another? Part of me feels protective about GC and sees him as a real resource here. But so long as he brings his game here, he will probably always catch some wrath from folks just beginning to process their resentment toward institutional religion .. as well as those who've just become very good at it *cough*, *Min*, *cough*. Of course so long as they maintain their wit their voices are valuable too.

Oh, fuck yeah. I'm going to create an alter for my old Southern Baptist self. I'll call him Jim Bob or something.

You should search for some of my latest posts. I've channeled him about three times, already, and he enjoys it every time I do!

Just be careful not to go over to the dark side .. or light side perhaps in this case.

I've channeled my old Southern Baptist self on other atheist forums before. One time it caused a new atheist member to assume I was a theist and he started verbally attacking me. I was like, Chill dude.
