"Unresearched"? "Opinions"? Da fuk?

I'm not saying you're all uneducated, but there are still random people who jump in with a bunch of rage comments that are all opinion.. hopefully you get my drift

EDIT: I also often view the forum from my phone.. maybe that makes it less intelligible from my perspective

You're still acting very condescending when you say this. If you want to get something done around here then you're going to have to meet these people at their level. They'll respond very well to respect and common sense.

Sorry, I'm not trying to come across that way

EDIT: Tbh I don't know what sounds condescending about it >.<

Can you explain this further? What exactly is social evolution, and why don't you consider actions "based on peer observations" to be learned?

@John V.

Perhaps we can refresh this discussion if you are willing to plainly state your position (belief) regarding the existence of a god.

Do you assert that a god exists, and that said god is in charge of everything including the constructs of morality?

I would sincerely like to know what you believe regarding a god; i.e. the following.

*Do you say a god exists?
*Do you say this god is the creator of everything?
*Do you say that those who disbelieve in said god are doomed?
*Do you know what atheism is?

No, why don't you just address my points?

Attempts to change subjects and shift the burden of proof usually aren't so blatant. Are you unusually honest, or just clumsy?

Based on this knowledge, if someone is raised with no knowledge of the concept of god or sin, they will not be held responsible for any "sins" they commit their entire life. Therefore must not suffer the consequences of sin and be sent to hell.

However, the bible teaches that you have to accept Jesus as your personal savior in order to go to heaven.

So we have a conundrum on our hands.

@Rahul, Esquilax, and ITChick: You've all asked really good questions. I'm willing to discuss it and help it make sense, but I'm doing this from my phone and, quite honestly, I can't keep up with the posts in the thread. I really think there are too many voices and unresearched opinions here to have an intelligible discussion, so if you sincerely want to know, thrn please go to my profile and shoot me a pm or an email.

Thanks =)

Locke, I have to admit that I am a super sceptic and that emails/pm's between us would probably just be a waste of time.

I would be as surprised if you manage to convince me that God exists, it is the christian god and that he is not an evil bastard as I would be if someone convinced me that father christmas is real and he is the one who brought me presents.

Now, if I am wrong (in either one of these two) I do think that it is VERY important for me to find out. So I am open despite being VERY sceptical.

What about a very friendly debate (in the debate area or elsewhere where the people who are allowed to post are limited) on these forums, where we are not trying to prove each other wrong. I just list my objections and you tell me why you think I'm wrong.

That way I won't feel as if I'm wasting your time as you might convince someone else with your arguments. You will also have a slight advantage due to the fact that I haven't read the scriptures in years.

(I do think it is of value to have more than my/your opinion, but I also agree that if there are too many people key issues might get lost)

Edit: sorry, I would have pm'ed this but couldn't figure out how to do it on the stupid phone.
Any spelling mistakes are due to my godlessness!

I realize that it does me no good to defend a position without first knowing what the obverse position actually is, and rather than continuing to make presumptions, I chose to plainly ask you. I'm trying to be fair. Are you willing to answer the questions? If so, then I may gain adequate resources with which to respond. If not then I may just be pulling responses out of thin air. I guess you could say that I am honest. What one person calls *unusually*, may be quite usual for someone else.

Would you prefer I continue this conversation from the ignorance I’ve confessed, or shall we move beyond the uninformed rhetoric and begin a real dialog?

I've done that here ITChick. You can request a thread locked to just two people. In my case though, it was to stop myself and my opponent spamming every thread on the forum Big Grin (Pro tip)

“If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple... In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples." - Luke 14:26, 33

"Jesus said to them, 'Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.'" - John 6:53

With such statements as these it's surprising so many people profess Christianity - perhaps they don't really know what it means to be Christian... But my point is that Jesus never tried to convince anyone to follow Him; He simply offered, and moved on, so I appreciate your consideration of both your own interest, and my time.

Also, don't feel rushed to reply. I fully understand wanting to thoroughly scrutinize before answering. I'll do my best to give error-free information, and to fix it when it's given. I've already learned a lot from being on these forums and I don't think this debate will be an exception. Smile
