What would you say is the most important book for an atheist to read? Or, if you could read only one book on atheism, which one would it be?

There's no point to reading any "atheist" books by Dawkins or any of that sort. However, you should read science books. I recommend Origins: Fourteen Billion Years of Cosmic Evolution and Death by Black Hole: And Other Cosmic Quandaries, both by Neil deGrasse Tyson.

There are a lot of scientific tomes out there that one should read, but for fictional (other than the Bible &Co, that is) reading I recommend Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials -series.

Not specifically 'atheist', but it's a great book on how to think and evaluate ALL supernatural claims.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

Try "Atheism: A Philosophical Justification" by Michael Martin.

You will find some contemporary apologists who will argue that Martin doesn't address more recent "developments" in theology/apologetics (which I interpret to mean a bigger, better piece of dog shit), but don't be fooled by their smokescreen. His work is absolutely devastating to their position, and they haven't even begun to deal with what he has done.

Your interpretation is correct.

There is no new argument for the existence of a god.

Plantinga, Craig, et al (with their addition of modal logic) are doing nothing more than polishing a turd.
