Is Hell Really a Bad Place?

Is Hell Really a Bad Place?
When listening to Christians today, you will see teratoid bigots like televangelists Bryan Fischer and Pat Robertson. Fischer thinks people should be required by law to attend the Christian church and atheists should be taxed if they do not attend, alternative religions to Christianity do not have 1st amendment rights, and it should be a crime to say the lord's name in vain. Robertson and his Republican allies in the U.S. Congress think Christian pastors have the right to preach death to homosexuals.

Then there are the nutty groups of Christian preachers who claim to be actual prophets of a higher power, and intend on establishing Christianity as the official religion of the United States. They bomb abortion clinics, persistently assert "God hates fags", and hold protests outside of Atheist conventions.

But why do these screwballs do this? To win a ticket to heaven, of course. Quite frankly, as Freedom From Religion Foundation co-president Dan Barker once put it, I would much rather spend eternity in hell with Satan and Larry Flynt, than in heaven with Pat Robertson, Bryan Fischer, and the very militant Christian right.

No sex with different partners allowed on earth, no change to be expected in heaven. No vices or mind altering substances allowed on earth, no change to be expected in heaven. Expected to WORSHIP the most powerful being imaginable for no reason on earth, no change to be expected in heaven...

Gimme a case a beer, The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, and a ticket to hell. That Satan guy seems to be down with all the fun stuff!!!

I think the devil is the nice guy here. He was trying to defend us all from God's mean regulations, and so he left heaven to fight for us. He has a nice place for us all who remain faithful to beer and roll ups.

Following him is so much different. All you have to do is have faith...

Oh wait...

If there is an afterlife, hell would be the place to be. All my friends would be there and we could have one helluva party! And if hell is, like according to some, just the complete absence of gods, well, then it is exactly the same as now. Most like though I'll just be dead, with no way of knowing it myself, so meh.
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura
