What if Jesus had failed?

Awesome. So I don't have to waste time believing in him and worshiping him.

Or, wait, we DO have to do something for our forgiveness. But, there are no contradictions in the Bible, right?

You may be the one hopeless case on this forum.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

It astonishes me to see Christians waxing lyrical about human sacrifice again and again.

Godschild - really - do you not see anything revolting in comparing a man, a supposedly perfect man to a sacrificial lamb? This is the god you worship? Doesn't seem in the least bit anachronistic?

As for the alien discussion there is a world of difference between thinking there might be aliens out there somewhere and assuming they are doing some kind of flypasts down here on earth.

Alien existence, quite possible. Alien awareness of our existence - very improbable specifically because of the size of the universe.

For all we know they could have been aware of Earth and humanity for hundreds of thousands of years and have watched our development with great interest. There were UFO sighting that fit the description of modern day reports dating back to ancient Egypt. There was also apparently a surge of UFOs, what were called "Foo Fighters" during WW2, a global war on that scale may have caught their attention. At the time they thought they were some kind of Nazi super weapon.

Really?

An alien race will fly trillions of miles just to play hide and seek with earthmen? I don't know if you are describing an advanced alien race or the cast of Jackass.

If you want to believe such nonsense that is your affair. If you can provide evidence of same then maybe you will be taken seriously.

Religion suffers from the exact same problem.

This - "God sent His Son to redeem all of mankind, Jesus as God came of His own choice, "

is as bizarre and unsubstantiated as this.

" I think they are extraterrestrial deep space probes manned by some kind of AI.

I just think they're unmanned science/survey probes. There won't be anyone inside of them. Given the turns they can make at the speeds they travel anything organic inside would probably be mushed anyway. There was one that followed the Apollo mission to the moon as well, it's an event recorded on the audio logs there was definitely something there.

I think they are actually mechanized hunter/killer drones with a mandate to kill any creature wearing both a crucifix and tin foil hat.

Sword of Christ, you're fucked.

Eh? I'm not seeing why it would even be a big deal in a universe the size as it is. There is a massive amount of evidence and sightings for them if you bother to look. You seem determined to reject anything that seems even slightly beyond the everyday mundane. It's reactions like this that lead me to think that atheism is like some kind of dogmatic/fundamentalist religion.

A consistent misrepresentation of our position. We reject nothing, in principle, but we also accept nothing until there is enough solid evidence to justify that acceptance. Most of the rejection of religious claims comes from thousands of years of those claims being made with zero substantiation of them having any basis in reality. You might call it "The Boy Who Cried Jesus (for 2,000 years and counting)".

That's nice. Do you have evidence of that or is it merely what you choose to wish to be true?
