I suppose mostly, very personally, I can cut through to something a lot bigger than myself and get a wide perspective.

Hello Zoso & all
To get back to the original post of this thread so please bear with me, it may take a while: (October 6, 2009 at 5:04 pm)zoso Wrote: If evolution is the foundation for lifes existance can anyone give me an example or show me how any species has naturally developed new information on its DNA. The DNA of all animals are never the same, even within the same species, e.g. no two dogs have the same DNA makeup (possible exception of identical twins) so in a litter you may have some dogs with short legs while others have long, If circumstances favour swift long legged dogs then the DNA makeup for the next generation will move more towards long legged dogs and over time you will have a new breed. (October 6, 2009 at 5:04 pm)zoso Wrote: If evolution is true why is there no ape/man in existance today. The reason we don't see any creatures that were our ansestors is that they have all died out. However, in California there are two species of Salamanda which do not interbreed so are totally DNA incompatible, but you can follow one of the species up the States and see it slowly change untill you get back to your starting point to find that the Salamandas have become a the species. This phenominon is called a "Ring Species" and is worth reading about. (October 6, 2009 at 5:04 pm)zoso Wrote: We see neat patterns and believe thats what happened but does it always work like that? As Humans we look for patterns as a method of predicting the future. Noticing that day and night comes at regular intervals, that seasons change predictably and various animals act predictably was (and still is) important to us for hunting and other necessary duties we needed to survive. Now in the modern times we still see patterns but rather than accepting it without question we try to look for a rational behind it so that we can make better and more accurate predictions. It is possible that some will make incorrect or false observations and interpretations, but with enough people constantly studying and re-evaluating the evidence, we can be fairly confidence that we are getting closer to more accurate and descriptive models. (October 6, 2009 at 5:04 pm)zoso Wrote: If evolution was proven there would no longer be religion. I very much doubt that, if something is believed very strongly then all sorts of arguaments can be used as protection including the old favourite "People who don't believe what I believe are lying to try and discredit my beliefs". There are plenty of inconsistencies in most (if not all) holy books, but believers are quick to come up with explanations or else conveniently ignore the evidence. I think I've rambled long enough. All the best to you all. Chris
Archeologists near mount Sinai have discovered what is believed to be a
missing page from the Bible. The page is currently being carbon dated in Bonn. If genuine it belongs at the beginning of the Bible and is believed to read "To my darling Candy. All characters portrayed within this book are fictitous and any resemblance to persons living or dead is purely coincidental." - Newsreader in 'Red Dwarf 2: Better Than Life' Quote:zoso Wrote: If evolution was proven there would no longer be religion. What do you mean "IF"? Evolution IS fact and has been proven for over100 years. New discoveries such as DNA also constantly reinforce evolution as indisputable fact. Perhaps go way and find out the difference between an hypothesis and a theory. .I was taught evolution as science at the Catholic school I attended. That is the case with religious schools and universities all over the world. The exceptions are the willfully ignorant anti science literalists of the lunar religious right. Trying to argue with a creationist is exactly like trying to argue with a Holocaust denier. Both have the ability to ignore evidence and live in a state of permanent denial. (October 6, 2009 at 5:04 pm)zoso Wrote: In our western world today, we choose atheism as the logical path to live and believe. I'm a grammar and atheist Nazi, and I have fixed your post. Anyways... This post... Is, like, seriously... Ugh... No, we don't need evidence to believe in something. We need evidence to know it's true. We cannot just go out on a limb and say that when we find a twenty dollar bill it's the work of God. No, we rationalize and think. Maybe somebody dropped it? Was it that guy in front of you? Perhaps it's been here this whole time? I do not believe in something unless there's evidence for it, or else I just keep pondering whether or not it's true. No, I have not walked on the moon. But you cannot walk on the Moon, first of all. You must skip. We have proof of this because of many, many videos. Not to mention the prisms put up on the Moon by... I forgot what mission it was... building them on the Moon. And, no, we can't. Evolution is a hundreds of thousands of years process. We cannot root back to about 150 years and find changes in animal DNA; that's about the only time they decided to record anything in history. So we have to wait a long, long, long time until we can say for sure that evolution exists. There is no ape man because there is no ape man. This question is idiotic, to be brutally honest... I don't know what you mean by this question... (skips) Evolution holds much proof, more proof than religion, anyways. Must I appoint you the fossils of prehistoric animals? And, no. You're incorrect. If evolution is proven correct, idiotheists would still reject the idea and say that it's all wrong. Plus, there are plenty of people out there (including today's Pope) that believe God and evolution have a relationship with each other. In other words, they think that part of the Bible is wrong and that evolution is indeed true, as well as God. You didn't do your research, but then again, neither did I. xD

I need evidence to believe, depending on how outlandish the claim is. You tell me that your supernatural being created the universe? You're going to need some very hard-core evidence for me to start to believe that. Without that solid evidence, all I can have is Faith, and I don't like faith. If I told you I drew a picture of a car yesterday, I don't think you would be too skeptical of it. Drawing a car is very possible and common. If you believe that I drew one without evidence, you can be on the right side b/c drawing a car is a rational action and realistic.
Just depends on how big the rock is and if you decide to avoid it or not I guess.
