A small thanks to the resident Theists..

RE: A small thanks to the resident Theists..
A good example of not knowing one's bible perhaps? I know of two verses specifically that call for it.

As far as Bronze age beliefs, it has nothing to do with the quality of the belief, rather the unfortunate tendency for humans to be extremely gullible and superstitious.

And to cap off my counter-arguments, your reading of the scripture doesn't fare any better than my educated guess about theists that can be observed. There are something like 500+ different problems with the bible because it is an extremely poorly written book. I'd link you an example or two to read but I'm on mobile. I'll look into it later.

And thank you. I've been here since May, just mostly lurking/forgetting I had an account. I have a terrible tendency to make accounts on forums and then forget about them. Not this time though.

Quote:The scriptures do not call for little kids to be killed because they are unruly.

Again, evidence that you haven't even read your own bullshit...or, has been stated, your holy blinders prevent you from seeing the atrocities of your fucking "god." Your god kills kids merely for being in the way.

Quote:31 And the Lord said unto me, Behold, I have begun to give Sihon and his land before thee: begin to possess, that thou mayest inherit his land.

32 Then Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, to fight at Jahaz.

33 And the Lord our God delivered him before us; and we smote him, and his sons, and all his people.

34 And we took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed the men, and the women, and the little ones, of every city, we left none to remain.

I'm always struck by the emphasis on praise. Who do we praise? Our dogs, our kids .. and God. That is so weird. "Atta boy, God! Way to go! You the man!" As if Christians are really looking to choose which of God's acts is and isn't praiseworthy. No, they assume everything He does is perfect and if its perfection isn't obvious it's because of their own limitations. Most Christians seem to abandon themselves and all responsibility to God. I think they call it turning things over to God. I call it abdicating their dignity as a person. [/rant]

Hey GC, thanks for stopping by!

THEBIBLE Wrote:Deuteronomy 21:18-21
“If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey the voice of his father or the voice of his mother, and, though they discipline him, will not listen to them, then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his city at the gate of the place where he lives, and they shall say to the elders of his city, ‘This our son is stubborn and rebellious; he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton and a drunkard.’ Then all the men of the city shall stone him to death with stones. So you shall purge the evil from your midst, and all Israel shall hear, and fear.

Leviticus 20:9
For anyone who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death; he has cursed his father or his mother; his blood is upon him.

2 Kings 2:23-24
He went up from there to Bethel, and while he was going up on the way, some small boys came out of the city and jeered at him, saying, “Go up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!” And he turned around, and when he saw them, he cursed them in the name of the Lord. And two she-bears came out of the woods and tore forty-two of the boys.

Oh, and then there's these.. But I'm sure you just read right over those or who knows.. Maybe you liked it.

Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.

Dead wrong.  The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.

Quote:Some people deserve hell.

I say again:  No exceptions.  Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it.  As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.

As far as I can read, there are no age exceptions.

Here is the picture I was referencing earlier in the thread. There weren't quite as many issues as I thought, and some of these will probably be dismissed as minor, but there you are.

Link.

Atheists don't say things just to say them, without proof or reason and denying what's in your book doesn't make it disappear.

You know I've said it many times, don't presume to tell me what my beliefs are. It's the same fucking sentiment I give to people who presume to tell me how to do my job: I don't go into their workplace and tell them how to do their jobs; I don't go to AA meetings and tell them how to run their meetings; I don't go to gyms and tell people how to work out, and I sure as shit don't go into doctor's surgeries and tell the patients what to do with their medical advice.

Oh, and plus I don't despise people who have different beliefs to me, which I think I can safely say, is the number one difference that I see between your outlook and mine.

She didn't. What drugs are you on? She merely assessed your Holy Book and found it wanting, whilst supporting of the bizarre positions held by Christians (where she cited examples - and you weren't one of them).

For someone who doesn't despise others for their belief's you are pretty foul mouthed about it. Not coming across as the pinnacle of Christian tolerance......
