Still sick. Ugh.

I'm in the process of upgrading my NAS (network attached storage) - I'll be adding 4 disks for a total of 24 terabytes of raw storage (15-18 TB usable depending on whether I opt for 2 or 3 redundant disks). Had to take two backups first - 27 hours each, FML.

Got everything moved into the new chassis (the old one didn't have any free disk bays) and it booted back up the first time.

Once the HBA arrives (fancy acronym for "disk controller with a shitload of ports") I'll be able to hook up the new drives - and then I'll have to rebuild the pool and do a restore.

My 18 year old daughter just discovered Simon and Garfunkel. I'm listening to her learn the chords for Bridge Over Troubled Water off in the background. Her voice range is a match for Garfunkel and the sound suits her. Fun to hear.

Today was a really fucking frustrating day

I spent most of the day fighting with BitDefender on Windows 10. It's still not fixed and I'm waiting to hear back from them on the support ticket I sent.

Then I found out that my father, who's been in prison since 2001 for molesting my cousin when she was a child in the 1980s, is having his final parole hearing on September 1st. He's the only person I've actually seriously considered killing. I'm also a bit concerned he'd try to get revenge on me and mom since we helped put him away. He was always verbally/mentally abusive, and could turn violent from time to time. Kicking holes in doors/walls, mostly, but he did try to burn down the house with us inside it once back in the mid 1980s. We have a security system with cameras, and the arms to defend ourselves. We also have neighbors relatively close by, so the odds of him trying something are low, but I'd never trust that he wouldn't.

And beyond that, just the weight of my disability crushing my 'spirit' for lack of a better word. It's increasingly harder to be okay with things as I see everyone around me hit happy milestones in their lives. I'm also not convinced the UTI I've fought for a good chunk of the year is gone. I still have light symptoms.

So, yeah. Fuck today, fuck my disability, and fuck my father, I hope he dies.

Sorry to hear about your father, damn! But don't forget, ppl may be hitting happy milestones, but there are also plenty of shitty ones, and no one is save from catastrophe. And I'm sure there are good ones in store for you as well...
