Don't forget to export any AutoCAD customizations you may have done.

I always hate it when I get "surprised" with a new computer at work. Without fail, they don't export the customizations nor do they keep the old computer ("but, we copied all your personal files") and I wind up spending a day and a half making AutoCAD functional again. No, it's not functional out of the box. Never has been, never will be.

I already know that my 2015 settings export wasn't importing to 2016... I'm gonna export them again in Monday while I transfer my larger folders from my hard drive to the server and then set up the new computer and hopefully import settings. I REALLY do not want to be stuck with that shitty ribbon Windows is forcing everyone into.

They've already moved some of the MTEXT editing functionality from the palettes to that damned abomination that is the ribbon. I'm certain they have moved/will move more. They're also trying to take away toolbars. In 2015 you can still get them, but you have to jump through hoops. Are they gone in 2016?!?

They've made it so that if you don't export your 2015 settings (or, in my situation, if your 2015 settings won't import) then you're fucked and basically stuck with the ribbon.

That's why most of Monday will be devoted to figuring out how to get my settings to import.

For over twenty years AutoCAD's biggest strength has been it's customize-ability. Between the menu structure and the internally supported programming languages you could make AutoCAD do and be anything you needed. I'm seeing a disturbing trend to undo that and it saddens me although I think the bigger culprit is that the CADDer is replacing the drafter. So many people who are using AutoCAD today could not produce a drawing with pen/pencil and vellum if their life depended on it and you can tell a CADDer from a drafter just from looking at their drawings. CADDers want a program that works the same as all their other programs (hence the damnable, drawing space eating ribbon). Drafters want a program that does what they need done as simply and quickly as possible, GUI be damned.
