Drafters want a program that does what they need done as simply and quickly as possible, GUI be damned. When I was going through school, my class was forced to produce hand-drawn projects for at least the first year and a half of the program. Some people hated it and didn't get why we couldn't just draft up a presentation and print it out. By the time I graduated that program, all the first years' first design projects (which they do spring term of their first year) were ALL computer generated. I'm not saying that hand-drawn versus computer-generated is intrinsicly better, but I came from an art background before going into architecture and I think there's definitely a tangible difference is learning between being made to do something by hand and being allowed to pump it out of a computer.
