Omg...CD and I were just talking about this last night. Same grade, same eclipse. I watched it at school, Wilcox Elementary NE 74th and Glisan. He was in SW.

I was going to say I didn't think it was 78 or 79 because my recollection was that I was in 3rd or 4th grade at the time, but I just looked it up and it was Feb 26, 1979 - so I guess my recollection was faulty and I was in 6th grade.

Was there a partial eclipse in the '90s? I have this memory of being out on recess as a kid and outside getting pretty dark and the teachers telling us not to look directly at the sun...

Can't determine if it's a false memory or not.

I'm dog-sitting so I have two cats that wake me up between 2 and 3 am wanting to be fed in addition to a dog that will hear distant sirens and start howling, or just start barking randomly for no reason...

I haven't been getting very good nights' sleep in the past four days, and I have until Sunday before my time ends and I JUST have the cats... Tongue

Definitely something. I was in either 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade, because I remember what school I was in.  That would've put it... let me think... Fall 97 to Spring 00.

Edit: Although I think those are pretty common, so we might actually be remembering different events (especially since we're on opposite sides of the country)
