I think I detect a very subtle hint in there somewhere.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

My son just left my room.
He came in to tell me that he just found out his best friends mother passed away today. We knew she was going through cancer treatments. She was currently doing chemotherapy. As far as we knew she was expected to survive. It is still a sudden shock, even though we knew she was ill.
