Jibbers, I'm watching VICE about ALS/Lou Gehrig's disease, and I am reinforced in my opinion (after reading Tuesdays with Morrie) that ALS would be the worst possible way to die.

Thanks for your answer, had not thought about that. Most of the older houses in my city have both basements and attics. Both don't appeal to me at all. Except when I was a nanny, the lady I worked for had a house in Laurelhurst, an old and stately neighborhood. Beautiful finished basement for a rumpus room.

Most houses have attics in the UK, but basements are very uncommon over here. That reminds me I gotta clear out my attic at some point.
