What's everyone up to right now?
RE: What's everyone up to right now?
Excerpt from 'Ego Depletion' article on Wikipedia Wrote:[...]The role of glucose as a specific form of energy needed for self-control has been explored. Glucose, a sugar found in many foods, is a vital fuel for the body and the brain. Multiple experiments have connected self-control depletion to reduced blood glucose, and that self-control performance could be replenished by consuming glucose (e.g., lemonade).[3] However, some (but not all) of the findings were questioned.[4] Several recent experiments have found that resource depletion effects can be reversed by simply tasting (but not swallowing or consuming) sweet beverages,[5][6][7] which can have rewarding properties.[8] Others have suggested that the taste of sugar (but not artificial sweetener) has psycho-physiological signaling effects.

An experiment by Segertrom (2007) and Solberg Nes, has shown that HRV (heart rate variability) is a marker for both ego depletion, and an index for self-control power before the task.[9][...]

Rather fascinating I think.

It's important to note that that article compares lowered blood sugar levels with adequate blood sugar levels. It doesn't suggest that there is a linear correlation between glucose and self-control, ie that the more glucose you ingest, the higher your self control will be.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

I just drink tea all the time these days, sometimes the occasional Coke Zero.

Yes. The problem is that I'm worried that they can become addictive and I might need to them balance my glucose.

I am a fan of the flavor but I'm really worried about my teeth... which is why I haven't had them in a long while.

Yes. That's only one hypothesis and so it might not be the case at all. It indeed doesn't suggest it.

See what I quoted from the Wikipedia article.

The 'jury is out' on it basically.

FML, this virus my coworker let in means we have to restore back to Monday's data. I am losing an entire day's worth of work, which means I now have to cross reference all my unpaid invoices (which were promptly filed) and find out which of the hundreds are no longer showing as entered.

I just stepped on my cat's foot.
Judging by the noise she made it must have hurt.
She took off outside and I've been looking and calling out for her but she must think she's in trouble.
I feel really bad now.
