Ken Ham was honored, and his Answers in Genesis staff acknowledged, by Bryan College on Saturday as the AiG president picked up an honorary doctor of science degree at the school’s commencement. The college, located in Dayton, Tennessee, where the famous “trial of the century”—the Scopes “monkey trial” of 1925—played out, made note of Ham’s “courageous proclamation of the truths of Scripture.”

During the Scopes Trial in 1925, William Jennings Bryan expressed the wish that a school might be established in Dayton, "to teach truth from a Biblical perspective".[1] Following his death on July 26, 1925, a national memorial association was formed to establish such an institution in Bryan’s honor.

William Jennings Bryan University was chartered in 1930. Its stated purpose was to provide “for the purpose of establishing, conducting and perpetuating a university for the higher education of men and women under auspices distinctly Christian and spiritual, as a testimony to the supreme glory of the Lord Jesus Christ, and to the Divine inspiration and infallibility of the Bible,”[2] and its mission statement is "Educating Students to become Servants of Christ to make a Difference in Today's World."[3] In 1958, it was designated William Jennings Bryan College, and the name was shortened to Bryan College in 1993.[4]

I'm taking a little break from studying PDE's and browsing AF.  I must admit that I do enjoy verifying that the solutions I have obtained satisfy a particular PDE.  For example, I just verified that u(x,t)= 1/2*[h(x+ct) +h(x-ct)] satisfies the wave equation utt=c^2uxx.

Played a concert this morning.  When I got home around noon I crawled into bed for what I thought was going to be maybe a 1-2 hour nap.  6 hours later...

I think I'll pop over to the bookstore and have a coffee and a sweet.

Listening to 90's Rave/Techno mixes on YouTube while browsing AF after I stupidly decluttered (I think) my last tape of such music a while back in what can only described as a moment of madness thinking it had had its day and I could let it go... but while saving other tapes for digitizing... so all this time I thought I had this one in a box for ripping my most nostalgic songs only to find it wasn't there and can only surmise I 'KonMaried' it in a particularly strict moment of decluttering... but why oh why did I do that with my most nostalgic and 'joyful' tape of them all while at the same time keeping stuff much less memorable/meaningful? (So there is still a tiny hope that it's sitting in an old Walkman somewhere separate from the rest, cos I was testing it or something... but I doubt it  )

So anyway it puts a real dampener on the rest of the process, thinking 'what's the point?'... (I had hundreds of tapes decluttered down to about twenty with key nostalgic songs I wanted to digitize before disposing of the tapes)... but I'm not going to let it affect me because there are still memories to be recovered, just no more techno. So far I've got 'No Limit' (2 Unlimited), 'Maximum Overdrive' (maybe ?2 Unlimited), 'Mr Vain' (no idea), 'Faces' [...faces, faces, everywhere... everywhere!, everywhere!] (no idea), 'Take Me Higher' (no idea), and 'Y'all ready for this?' (no idea).

But it's a bit of double-edged sword doing this; you go looking for nostalgia, but when you find it and really start listening to it - so that its not really nostalgia any more... it's lost that mystery of the past feeling and just feels current, then it's not always that great. Like No Limit is a song that invokes a lot of memories from my childhood, but listening to it now I really don't like it, and wonder why I ever did... it's just not available any more as far as I can find so that added to the mystery. Even if something does turn out as good as you remember it, it still just gets taken for granted soon after... as happened with a film I spent years trying to remember what it was called, only to finally find it, buy it, watch it, like it, take it for granted, and forget it... so now it's just sitting there on my shelf, unwatched after that first time, despite all the years of mystery that preceded it

So I'm aware that all this may be ultimately pointless... if I ever found my techno tape it would just get taken for granted again like anything else, even if it was good. But it just represents an era of music so unique and lost... there's nothing like it any more... I guess in part characterised by the Prodigy (the album 'Experience' in particular)... though not quite the same. But after looking up '90's techno' and finding that there are hundreds of mixes available on YouTube maybe it's not quite so dead after all ...maybe I'll never find my techno tape again, or any of the songs that were on it, but just to find that all this has been lovingly revived by so many people on YouTube, means that it's not lost forever to the past, and there's now a wealth of free music to listen to... so I can get right back into it... not for the sake of nostalgia alone, but for the present going forward
