Beccs, do they make exceptions for eg: scalpels, etc if you show them you're a doctor?

I bought a big 240v dewalt hammer drill while on holidays (who doesn't?).
The airport security people opened it up and said it's OK for hand luggage.
They said if it was a cordless drill, it wouldn't be allowed because it's a potential weapon.
Meanwhile in first class, they received nice metal cutlery for their dinner? Dunno
