I'm 40 mi. from danger.
Beccarox had better stay in Florida a while longer. I forget whether you're closer to LA or San Diego, c172. Either way, keep an ear open for evacuation orders.

I'm within San Diego city council area. Not sure if you're familiar with SD, but I live in the Hillcrest district, which is right north of Balboa Park.

Oh sure, I've been there a bunch and was raised in the Linda Vista neighborhood which was formerly navy housing but has become little Viet Nam.
Well no fire will get you that isn't able to cross hundreds of road beds. Seems safe but try not to breath the air.

(This post was last modified: December 8, 2017 at 1:15 pm by c172.)
I was out to dinner at a taco shop with my father last night about a block away. I do have a scratchy throat right now, but my father had disclosed that she and my mother got hit by a cold, and it feels like that sort of thing. The air seemed pretty nice last night (kind of vivid sunset).
We do have a canyon, but I've never seen any brush fire in it. My local fire station, 5, doesn't currently have a brush engine to deal with that situation, but stn. 5 is actually operating out for a former hospice for right now as the normal building gets torn down and rebuilt, to be opened in '18. Stn. 14 over in North Park, does, and is a few miles down University, and they'd respond first to that kind of job, responding with BR-14.
NBC 7 is back into normal programming right now. No special report mode like all of last night. I guess we'll see what's what at the 11am news.

When I got home from work I started emptying out a couple of dining room cabinets that are getting picked up by a thrift store on Monday. The entire first floor of the house is in crisis -- There are wine glasses next to the toaster, food processor and stand mixer implements stacked up in a bin on the table, and the contents of my liquor cabinet are temporarily living on a shelf with the cereal and peanut butter.
Oh, and there are various cabinet accessories, such as drawers and shelves, in other odd spots. To apprise my daughter of the situation I wrote out a note with a danger symbol on it: "Wandering Furniture at Large."
To decompress after all that, I went to the Astronomy Society and listened to talks on solar astrophotography and on gravitational lensing.

I just sorted out a proof that I have been working on. Basically, I just let my mind wander and play around with some algebra (during the scratch work phase) until I finally realized that I had a direct proof. Note, I certainly had plenty of crumbled up sheets of failed attempts before I was able to do this.

The best way to learn math. Best way is to use computer for your sheets and version them. Saves paper. Took a while.

Reading an intro to Python, thinking it looks just as basic than BASIC (the only programming language I ever learned), and wondering what I can do with it. Had the same thought in 1981 when I bought my Sinclair ZX81 - had lots of fun with that!
