What's everyone up to right now?
RE: What's everyone up to right now?

Still depressed. Realizing there's no way I can have a successful academic career feeling like this. Hoping it's just drug side effects, and that they're transitional. My psychiatrist has walk-ins on Friday. I'll talk to her about it.

Report any new or worsening symptoms to your doctor, such as: mood or behavior changes, depression, anxiety, or if you feel agitated, hostile, restless, hyperactive (mentally or physically), or have thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself.

Not a fun drug. Also risk of some very nasty skin problems.

I'm trying to cheer myself up. My sister moved out today (all the way to Australia) and I'm emotional as fuck. I'm really happy for her and I know I'm gonna speak to her all the time, but I am really gonna miss her so much. I've looked after her most of my life in one way or another, so I guess this is what it's like for people with kids when they grow up and fly the nest. Booo.

Thanks. Got offered the job. I have multiple interviews this week, and this one isn't really the one I had my eyes on. Luckily I'm a baller at interviews, so I'm pretty confident in not accepting right away. Got an interview for a Financial Advisor for Aflac tomorrow...

Coffee and Red Stag cinnamon spiced whiskey. (And probably more bitching from the owner of the bunny ranch, or the bunny kibbutz, or whatever the fuck it's called.)

Ignored my nurse when she came today. She never gives me reasonable estimates of when she's going to arrive, and today, I just don't care.

Oddly enough, it's one of the few psych drugs I've been on that I found quite tolerable. There are very few choices when it comes to mood stabilizers that are FDA-approved really - and I'd categorize all of them as "not fun".

Yeah, there's risk of Stevens-Johnson Syndrome - apparently it's pretty rare, but it's very serious.

I've taken Lithium before, and I tolerate it very well. Unfortunately, it only cuts out the deep lows, not the mid-level highs that I've experienced the past two winters. My psychiatrist made a big deal about the potential liver side-effects when discussing the pro and con of lithium, which, among other things, tells me that she's still "managing me" rather than working with me, as a patient. Why people who know my intelligence think that's a good approach is beyond me. I understand that it can be effective, whether I know it or not, because she knows whole sides of the question that I don't know, and probably will never know. But it does a number on me in terms of trust to realize that someone has chosen to manipulate me, rather than deal openly and candidly with me. And I'm particularly vulnerable on that score because I place such a high value on honesty and virtue. Being manipulative with me is probably one of the best ways to undermine the relationship.

Listening to loud rock music and a bit drunk. For some reason, this Jim Beam based cinnamon whiskey hits a lot harder than either the Phillips or Black Velvet products. I can drink either of those and not feel a thing. A few shots and the Red Stag is having significant impact. I like this.

I'm letting off the throttle now, but I think tonight I'm gonna get toasted.

Fuck life. Fuck it all.
