John Cleese was great. To sum up, the world is filled with competent and intelligent people who undervalue themselves, contending with stupid people who don't know how stupid they are. We are *so* screwed. (Name of the show was "Why There Is No Hope.") He talked about confirmation bias, the Dunning-Kruger effect (and has actually met Dr. Dunning), and U.S. politics, and did a Q&A session that easily could have gone on for hours.
This morning I got up fairly early (which is almost unheard-of for me on a Sunday), made a cup of coffee, and sat down and wrote a new scene for a NaNoWriMo novel now officially in second draft. And then I went shopping. Bought a computer mouse, and a folding hand truck to help haul all my clarinets and saxes to and from the car. Puttered around, made supper (blueberry pancakes), and practised clarinet for a while. Had a major breakthrough, figuring out where an odd sound was coming from on some of the high notes. |
