Got called into the formal conference room downstairs and was told that the company feels they made a mistake when they hired me.
So they gave me a $12,000 raise.

Hot Damn! That's nice news. I had that happen...once. HR actually forced the department to pay me more money. Wasn't a kilobuck a month, but it was a start. I will let my cynical streak show and say that they probably should be giving you 3 kilobucks a month more money, and are counting themselves lucky that you don't suspect. I spent most of my "career"-look up the dictionary definition of that sometime, usually about definition 3- at or below the mid line for my pay grade, and promotions were few. All I can say is that I did a ton of good for the money, for the citizens of the US. If you have any insight into the company's pay structure (now required by law) be sure to investigate this. Nothing like getting ripped off when doing a great job, and being handed small bumps in pay to recognize it- and feeling like you have been recognized for you work, while still lacking in pay.

Just finished watching Ladybird online. What an amazing movie! I can't remember the last time a movie made me cry. Loved the story. Such a beautiful ode to my beloved city and favorite landmarks here in Sacramento.

Participated in a photo shoot at work today, of all places. (They're doing some departmental promo thing.)
Took the bus down to Old Market Square in downtown Winnipeg to see some of the free shows for the Jazz Festival. Beer, tacos and gelato were involved -- the food trucks and the beer garden had us surrounded so I went peacefully.
And when I got home I did Xtreme Laundry (lots of bedding, including a sleeping bag) and made peanut butter fudge.

Finally returned home from the Jackson Browne concert. It was pretty good, although I must admit, my enjoyment was a bit hampered by the fact that he did not include my favourite song of his in his setlist:
And here it is in its proper context (in my second-favourite film of all time):
Seriously, before singing "Somebody's Baby," he asked the audience if he was singing all the right songs, or something like that. I immediately shouted "LATE FOR THE FUCKING SKY!"
Also, I found (and bought) an "Awesome Mix Vol. 1" cassette-shaped tin. I decided to make it my new pick case (and I haven't even bothered to watch Guardians of the Galaxy yet, due to not being a Marvel person; maybe I should, to be honest. Seriously, Winter Soldier, Dr. Strange, and Spiderman: Homecoming are the only MCU films I've watched so far. Honestly, given my intrigue at the ending of INfinity War, I probably should go through them all before tackling that one, especially since understanding it apparently requires being familiar with the previous 18 movies.)

Too many thoughts whirling round my head for me to sleep. It's fairly well on into morning, so I'm half inclined just to stay up. A lot of thoughts for potential forum responses, but I'm too lazy to type any of them up.

Placing a hold on my library's copy of "The Blackwell Companion to Natural Theology" -- I'm interested in the book, but it's a bit expensive, and the material in it may be a bit advanced for me, so I'm grateful to have the possibility to examine it before sinking $50 into it.

Listening to my family telling me how relieved they are I have a new job (soon), the one I have now has apparently made me a bit snappy.
