Taking my kiddo out to practice driving.

Ick, I remember those days. I usually started with abandoned parking lots or deserted parks and worked up from there.

We used a mega parking lot of a nearby mega church. 

I can think of no better way to put their parking lot to good use.

She did well. I had her back up into a parking space and make several left and right turns. She did good for her fourth time out driving. We clearly aren't ready for the road and other cars just yet. I say she needs at least three good months practice with no cars around and only in empty lots to allow her adequate time to get the hang of it.

I'm enjoying cooking with my new iron skillet, but it's not as non-stick as I would like. I bought an iron skillet because, having no fingers on my right hand, I can't hold a skillet still and stir with the other hand at the same time. The weight of the skillet keeps it in place. But I sure do wish it had one of those modern non-stick coatings.

Seriously though, I believe I can order a "Student driver" magnet for my car, for when she's ready to go out on the road. I'd do it purely as a consideration to other drivers so that they don't get mad or impatient with her.

I don't know what it's like where you live, but I've seen people purposely fuck with obvious student drivers. Be sure to get forward- and rear-facing cameras so that people can't take advantage of her. It's amazing how much more well-behaved people are when they see a camera in your car! A recording will go a long way in court, and in fact may keep you out of court. Of course, I live in the litigation state, California. Shit I've seen commuting to and from work is crazy.

FYI: Generally, the people around these parts are considerate of student drivers. However, with the influx of Marylanders relocating to Pennsylvania over the last ten years, the rudeness has come along with them so some are just flat out ignorant. Fortunately, we live in an area with a lot of small towns and I know some of our local police. We shouldn't have a problem. But the cameras are a great idea.

Okay, if you don't know what the Theremin is (and, I honestly have no fucking idea how widespread the random knowledge I've accumulated over the last close to 29 years is half the time), well, here's a woman playing it:





Given that the Theremin is played without touching, and that, even if you do touch it, nothing happens except there's no sound anymore, I find myself struggling to figure out what the fuck Beatty even means here.

That said, while looking for the full quote so I didn't have to find the page again and type it again manually, I found the full quote from this blog post, and now I think that he's talking about making a musical sting to create an otherworldly feeling and manipulate audiences in much the same way the "one woman wail" in many Oscar-bait dramas or the Penderecki-influenced violin scores of modern horror do today.
