Spent the afternoon watching a series of videos on the air war over Korea. It was kind of funny how each video ended with a choral crescendo. Overall though, it was fairly information rich, and I got to watch stuff get blowed up real good. ![]() ![]() (February 16, 2014 at 3:13 pm)popeyespappy Wrote: Eating chocolate cake. And to think, there are some people out there who wonder if there's a purpose to life when you are an atheist. Happy Birthday, 'Pappy.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Happy Birthday popeyespappy! It's all down hill from here. Enjoy your cake.

Just got back from Taco Hell. I watched 60 Minutes on TV tonight, and they had a bunch of commercials for nummy food, so I had to go get something fast and hot. I think there must be a mutant strain of white trash in my DNA. I like all the cheap food joints. McDonald's, Subway, Taco Hell — I don't understand what people find wrong with their food. ![]() RE: What's everyone up to right now?

Well I had an absolutely righteous day in the garden today. (Okay poor choice of words.) Anyhoo .. I've been working on the front portion of the garden, a forty foot border that is a couple meters deep. In the fall I hired a guy to rip out the thirty+ year-old hedge of pyrocantha which happily grew to twenty - thirty feel tall every year before I'd trim them down again. There was also a decade old Kiftsgate rose which I'd planted which got chopped to the ground. That sucker used to frost the top of the hedge and the neighboring fruit tree every yearl.
That left an awful lot of bare ground. I got in there and rebuilt the front fence, painted it and built a trellis over the top for the rose. Would you believe that rose has already put out twenty foot canes? It is only just getting into the trellis now. So yesterday I found on Craig'slist a neighbor who had ripped out a concrete patio. I drove over there and got two truck loads of pieces to build up the soil in the section which contains the rose and a few other water hogs. The rest will be plants which can make do with little to no water once established. Last night I dry stacked the concrete pieces ("urbanite") and today I planted out a couple dozen plants I'd been stockpiling. Then the fun part started when I got to shop for more plants to fill in. I amended the soil and got all those new plants in the ground before popping into the hot tub for a soak. So I'm feeling pretty darn good about my day. The end. About to snuggle down and try to get some sleep.
Drinking a very yummy eisbock.
