Easy there Edward.

Having a cuppa joe before going to the first of two days I'm likely to work until the end of the month.

Thinking about it... Scissors are probably not the best thing to get out when I'm in that situation, and definitely not Dynamite Big Grin

They're good in more ways than one. I can never undo bras with those daft little hook things on them.

And yet the ladies can do it with one hand behind their backs...
There's a trick to it and I'm not telling! Hehe

Finally watching that DVD of the 2018 Picnic at Hanging Rock DVD I got for Christmas. It's pretty good so far, but, what with this being a minseries version of what I previously knew as a 107-minute film, it really seems to be taking its sweet-ass time. It takes half an hour to even get the carriage ride to the rock started; I also managed to get a copy of the book, and it looks like they expanded the worldbuilding scenes (with the requisite social commentary about how depressingly little has actually changed in the way of gender relations.) I'm not quite sure about the Skubiszewski family score; I applaud them for going in a different direction from the Zamfir score of the original, but I think it works the best when it's going for its Knick-lite score in the subtler moments. I also find it nice to see how more obviously Australian these characters actually are, since, for reasons that may or may not be related to the Empire's habit assimilating the Australian (in this case) identities into more refined British ones, their accents sound more British.

But, of course, something I've wanted to know from the moment I found out about it: In the original, three of the girls who go on the Rock and vanish end up going barefoot in their last moments before vanishing in what I think is either a moment of symbolism about being close to nature or summat. Naturally, the idea of beautiful young girls committing to being barefoot even in rough terrain gives me a different reaction:

Apparently, I've heard reports that they still do it in this version, but I was unable to find any pictorial or video evidence (short of actually getting Amazon Video to work properly on my iPad) through the usual channels. Well, it looks like, starting at about 48 minutes in, Miranda's just randomly taken off her shoes. So far, I like what I see.

My sister's been staying at my house, including my two nephews, my niece and my daughter.
I was so looking forward to going to work today and I dreaded coming home.
Five more days of restraining myself from physical violence and it will all be over.
I took the four kids to South Bank in Brisbane on NYE to watch the fireworks.
There were thousands and thousands of shit human beings there.
Never, ever again.

As a 107 minute movie, the slow pacing of Picnic At Hanging Rock wasn't a problem, and it contributed to the eery atmosphere. I can't imagine that being drawn out into a mini-series. That would be interminable.

These aren't the droids you're looking for.....
