After the shit show most of last year was, things are really looking up in 2019.
Awesome.

Just found this:
Please let this be a thing when the snow melts in Chicago and girls don't have to worry about frostbite and it isn't six degrees Fahrenheit like it is now.

Went to HPB today. I got a pretty good haul of six books (everything from books of social science to a Wimpy Kid book), and the strangest thing happened: I got a copy of King Solomon's Mines, but something strange happened. While it was scanning, I noticed that it was registering as something called The Best Lesbian Erotica 1996 & 1997.
So, they tried to rectify that situation, and, they tried to give it a new price, and tried to find its corresponding edition. Alas, it turns out that, as a book published before 1924 (and is therefore Public Domain) that is in high enough regard to still be in print today, it was like finding a needle in a haystack. Eventually, I found it, but they decided to set the price at $5 ($2 less than I was expecting).
And this week's film for the Deep Hurting Project is... The Disappointments Room. TVtropes is vague about exactly why it's shit (mediocre acting, shitty characters, no discernible structure, cliche-ridden), and apparently, it's based on, of all things, an episode of a show on HGTV.

The dish washing machine quit pumping out the water. I drained the cabinet and cleaned the strainer, and tried it again. Next comes the hose off the vacuum break and suction with my shop vac. If that doesn't work, it'll be a new machine, because it's 12 - 16 years old, and having a repairman come out, diagnose the fault (which I will already know by tomorrow); the parts and labor will be most of the way to the cost of a new machine.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

So, you're getting a new missus?

Uh...no right answer for that question. My son has yet to take the drain hose off the "Y" pipe, so I haven't finished with diagnosis. Since my hand surgeries, the strength hasn't come back like I expected. The wife and I spent over an hour washing and drying dishes this morning.

Earlier this afternoon, I went to the grocery store and had a kid who recognized me from work walk up to me and order an Air Head and Jolly Rancher. I told them “I’m off duty, kid.” They accepted this. Overall, I’m surprised that the kid was this quick to actually give his order here, since he’s usually so slow at it that I strongly suspect he may be drunk or high off his ass. Not that I’m judging him for this, even for a middle schooler, but I’d prefer if he was sober just so he could get his orders out in a timely fashion.

There was a big snowstorm today. It was bad enough that it took a lot of effort to get my car out of the snow. By the time I ended work, it was bad enough that the windows were frosted and it took a while to get it to a driveable condition. Even then, while driving home, I ended up coming close to skidding out multiple times. Sometimes, the snow was thick enough that I had to floor the gas pedal just to get to less than 20 mph. And sometimes, it was slick enough that even the simple act of driving in a straight line could potentially have led to a car crash. I was going to start my Business Ethics class today, and if the snow wasn't so bad that the campus had to close down, I'd have tried to drive there, and there's a distinct possibility that I'd keep skidding and I might not have even made it to Des Plaines.

Just finished filing my taxes. Hard to say how the 2018 tax cuts affected my tax - my liability was a bit less relative to income but my filing status changed, so who knows? I certainly don't feel like redoing my return with my old filing status just to satisfy curiosity.
