Had a lot of trouble falling asleep last night. After making breakfast, I discovered the problem: I take some pills in the morning (probiotics and adjuncts to my antidepressants) and some at night (said antidepressants and melatonin.) Yesterday, I did not take the adjuncts, so, when I went to bed, I tried to split up the morning from the night. I accidentally did not take the melatonin. It took until about three for me to actually fall asleep. I had to sleep in just to get six hours. I’m okay now.

Kitchen floor and countertops are in. Plumbing, baseboards, backsplash and paint to go.

All this hard work, watching it has been exhausting. Not to mention wallet-flattening.

I'm watching some youtube videos and playing Runescape. Just got back into Runescape today as I figure it's a good time killer when I'm not working or doing something around the house.

Just finished an article about the time Ozzy Osborne bit the head off a bat. While writing it, I did a lot of research about the treatment of rabies, especially since, well, it turns out that simply waking up to find a bat in the room or finding one in the room with an unattended child, intoxicated person, or mentally handicapped person is actually a sufficient trigger for making someone do rabies shots. And if you actually start to present symptoms, the most effective course of treatment involves putting the patient in a coma, injecting them with drugs to slow down cognition, and hope they're the 8% who don't die (either of rabies
or nerve damage). It's called the Milwaukee Protocol and it's the only way anyone has been able to cure rabies so far.

Also, apparently the kid who threw the bat at him ended up taking up a job in medical records. I like to think he felt so guilty at the prospect of potentially exposing a rock legend to such a virulent disease that he decided to go into medicine to atone for it, but ended up in records because either he didn't get good enough grades or the work was so stressful he figured he couldn't hack it as a full-blown MD.

Ramen noodles (from the little plastic bags) and a shot of cinnamon flavored whiskey.

Last time I made ramen noodles this way, I had to use a colander and it was quite a production, including a lot of dishes to watch. I bought a strainer which clips on the side of the pot and made things much simpler.

Just heard about Detainment, a short film about the murder of James Bulger, a two-year-old boy, by two ten-year-old boys. The mother of the victim is pissed that it well, A) exists, and B) has enough of a following to have recieved an Oscar nomination.





There's particular concern that they have another boy re-enact her son's final moments (while I haven't seen the film, the consensus of those who have actually seen it says that there's very little seen of the actual horrific deed), and the fact that it humanises two killers who inflicted enough injuries on a random toddler that pathologists couldn't isolate any of the 42 injuries against him as the fatal blow and then had an oncoming train dispose of the body. Well, apparently the bulk of the film comes from transcripts of the police interviews, and, well, I strongly believe that there in fact is a point to such a thing, and I'll let Spencer Tracy explain it (specifically starting at 4:24):





These weren't simple monsters, they were young boys, and at least in Venables' case, a fairly normal one. And that makes it all the more horrifying.

Well, that was heavy. I may as well fire up some Defunctland to unwind.

Yesterday I had a good day. We learned that my wife 's ADA accomodations have been approved, and that her civil rights claim has been submitted to both state and federal employment agencies.

I also learned that the sale of my employer is closing today. I'll be working for a $3bn publicly traded company. I also hold quite a bit of stock, which until now was practically unsellable.

Today I'm onboarding and starting the process of redeeming my shares. I expect to have the proceeds inside of a week from now.
