Went to my therapist today, and we talked about the case of AJ Freund. He was a five-year-old boy whose parents said he was abducted, but it turns out his parents killed him. Got a lot of press. Meanwhile, last Monday, a 22-year-old man gets murdered less than a mile away from my home. He's an engineering student who wanted to prove himself, earning a degree in engineering from East-West University and still working at the same time. When he came to his apartment after work, he got shot. The day after the shooting, I visited the site to see a vigil in front of the apartment and two news trucks covering the story. From that day on? Nothing.

It could just be that the cops didn't actually find any leads yet, maybe the news media just doesn't give a shit. It's one thing to say, as Ice Cube did "When somethin' happens in South Central, Los Angles/ Nothin' happens. It's just another bigga dead," but Skokie ain't South Central.

Wondering if I should cancel Amazon Prime. Basically, it costs me $4 a month more to have it, but I only use it for free shipping, so basically I need to average one free shipment a month to make it worthwhile. I probably do, but if I went without, I could probably still manage and essentially have an extra $50 at the end of a year. Not exactly something to sneeze at. That would pay for the Bluray burner I just ordered which otherwise makes a big dent in my financial cushion.

(It also occurs to me that, I think, I could just activate it when I need a free shipment, only for a month, then cancel it again, saving $4 in the months that I don't use it.)

And, burning my music files to Bluray for backup. I figured at two discs a morning, it will take about a month to finish the job. I figured that if I kept up that pace, it would take 4-5 months to use up all the bluray media I have on hand. Thus the purchase of a second burner, both to cut down the time, as well as reduce the frequency with which I must maintain that pace to realize the desired benefits. I'm actually on pace to finish four discs this morning, but I don't want to have to do this every morning.

Kicked back and relaxing with a hard cider. I have a 4 hour documentary I need to watch later, as well as a buttload of library materials to rip, but for the next few hours I'm just going to spend my time dicking the proverbial dog.
